*THIS CHAPTER IS ENTIRELY WHOLESOME THERE IS NO SMUT I REPEAT ZERO SMUT*

OMNISCIENT

Onika sat quietly on the bus wearing her wired headphones that she always wore in her favourite colour, pink. She played with her jacket zipper as the bus went over bumps and turns, her knee bounced and she tried her hardest to avoid eye contact with anyone else on the public bus. More than once she's been zoned out on a part of someone's face and they've mistaken her for staring at them. The bus driver checked the mirror every once in a while to make sure she was okay as he drove her to school. Onika sat unusually upright on the bus as she didn't like feeling the ripples on her back whenever the bus moved. She's fresh into her senior year of high school and has been taking the bus for years, every single day was completely ordinary and she liked it that way nothing caught her off guard.

"Hey!" Beyoncé said from beside her. She hadn't noticed she'd slid into her seat until just now.

"Hi," Onika replied, slightly shocked at her sudden interaction with the other girl.

"What were you listening to? I've been sitting here for hours." Beyoncé said, in a joking way. This flew past Onika's head completely.

"I was listening to Lauren Hill. I'm sorry I didn't hear you, my music is loud." Onika replied politely, she was always told to do so when speaking to a stranger.

"Yo I love Lauren, what song...were you listening to?" Beyoncé said but paused to put a piece of gum into her mouth.

"Lost Ones, from The Miseducation Of Lauren Hill. But it's a different song now." Onika replied while whispering which confused Beyoncé.

"Why are you whispering?" Beyoncé asks while whispering as well.

"You were being too loud, if I whispered I figured you would copy me," Onika says honestly.

"Oh...sorry," Beyoncé says while rolling her eyes, she figured Onika was just being rude, she didn't think she was loud.

"It's okay," Onika replied. Beyoncé took this as a signal to leave the seat.

"Why are you leaving?" Onika asked plainly, she didn't care whether or not Beyoncé was there she simply wanted to know what about her was off-putting.

"Because you said I was loud," Beyoncé replied.

"But you are loud," Onika responds.

"Okay? But it's rude to say that." Beyoncé says.

"Oh. Okay. I'm sorry you feel that way." Onika says.

"Yeah, whatever," Beyoncé said while starting to walk away. Suddenly the bus stopped and people flooded in. Onika pulled her back into the seat before a stranger could sit next to her.

"What?" Beyoncé says irritated.

"I don't want to sit next to a stranger and you were the only other option," Onika says.

"Why are you so rude, I ain't do shit to you?" Beyoncé replies.

"I'm not being rude, you asked," Onika replied not seeing the problem.

"Yeah, but you don't answer questions like that. At least word it better so it doesn't sound like you're a bitch with a bad attitude for no reason." Beyoncé said.

"How would I have worded it?" Onika asks genuinely, Beyoncé chuckles before realizing she was serious.

"You could've asked me to sit with you I would've said yes," Beyoncé says.

"Oh. I'll do that next time." Onika says plainly before sticking her headphone back in her ear and looking away from Beyoncé.

"What are you listening to now?" Beyoncé asked for the third time in a row because Onika was zoned out.

"Oh me? Untitled by D'Angelo, but the song is also called How Does It Feel." Onika responds finally.

"Hmm, I might I know that one. Lemme hear?" Beyoncé half asked but before Onika could give an answer Onika takes her earphone out of her ear since they were sitting shoulder to shoulder Beyoncé easily slipped it into her own ear and listened to the song. Onika sat there in pure disgust even though it didn't show on her face she was mortified.

"Yeah, my mom loves this song," Beyoncé says. Beyoncé sits there and hums the melody she doesn't notice Onika staring holes into the side of her head.

"How do you like music this loud but you don't like loud people?" Beyoncé asks, Onika thinks for a second.

"Music is purposely loud to get a message across or make you feel a certain way, it makes sense why music is loud. Loud people have no excuse." Onika answers.

"But people yell to get their point across and sometimes that's just how they sound," Beyoncé argues.

"Do you enjoy the sound of chewing?" Onika asks.

"No, why would I-" Beyoncé starts.

"You're chewing gum loudly right now. But you either don't notice it or don't care. Self-inflicted triggers don't bother you because you get to benefit from the taste of gum, however, others don't get to taste gum but they have to hear you chew it. Since we're having a conversation noise is inevitable but if one person is being loud and the other person doesn't like it there's no reason to continue the conversation because the loud person is doing more harm than good. I'm not saying you should stop talking I'm saying that you don't rea-" Onika rants on and on.

"Okay damn. I'll talk quieter relax." Beyoncé chuckled to herself. Onika smiles lightly. Eventually, there's silence between the two as they listen to music from Onika's headphones. Their bus ride starts coming to a stop as they approach Beyoncé's stop.

"Hey thanks for the music. Bye." Beyoncé says while getting up and grabbing her bag. She waits at the door for the driver to come to a complete stop.

"Hey, uhh you can have these," Onika says while handing Beyoncé her headphones. Beyoncé smiles brightly at her.

"Really? Thanks!" Beyoncé says while taking the headphones. Finally, she leaves and Onika sits back down, she smiles to herself, feeling accomplished that she refrained from telling Beyoncé she didn't want the headphones anymore because she used them.
