It all starts with a smile

Loki has been living at Stark tower since the attack of New York. When he first moved in he was quiet. He would sit in a little corner in the main living area (somewhere where stark insisted he could be seen) and sat there reading or staring out the window all day. He never spoke a word to any of the others unless it was to tell the mewling quims to leave him alone. Eventually the avengers stopped trying to talk to him and started to ignore him.

A month after he moved in, Y/n came back from a mission overseas. Apparently foreign enemies had been trying to steal the chitauri technology left behind from the battle. Thor had personally informed Y/n that Loki would be moving in, just before she returned from her mission. He convinced her not to worry as he was basically a ghost anyway, no one ever really heard from him and he kept to himself. Y/n's immediate thought was that it was out of character and that maybe he was struggling internally, after all he was being forced to live with the people he probably hated most in the world.

Once Y/n had settled back in she made it a goal to make Loki feel more at home. Maybe it was because she knew how it felt to be an outsider, to be lonely, or maybe it was because she couldn't stop staring at those raven curls that fell perfectly onto his shoulders or his sharp cheek bones that she knew would look even sharper if she could make him smile. Y/n was willing to bet her life savings that he had the most beautiful smile and she was determined to see it.

The first time she made him smile, Y/n had bought a packet of extremely sour lollies knowing perfectly well that Thor would gobble them all up as soon as he spotted them.
Loki was sitting in an armchair reading, but was peering over his book as she set her trap. Y/n had put the lollies into a bowl and left them on the table so that there was no label to indicate the torture Thor was about to endure. Like clockwork, Thor came into the living room and sat down on the couch to wait for dinner. I winked at Loki as I sat down on the couch closest to him and waited for the mouse to walk into the trap.

Thor's eyes darted to the bowl of sweets and his eyes lit up. He reached towards the bowl, grabbed a handful of the eye-wateringly sour lollies and shoved them straight into his mouth. It took him a few seconds, but once the sourness hit his tongue, the intensity only grew. Thor's eyes went wide as they filled with tears. He jumped up off the couch, spat out the lollies and started to panic at the odd sensation. Y/n burst out laughing as he rushed into the kitchen desperately looking for a drink. Y/n looked over to Loki and saw a smile growing on his face as he watched the scene unfold. And sure enough his cheek bones became even sharper. It was the most beautiful smile Y/n had ever seen. He looked beautiful.

Thor put his head under the tap in the kitchen sink and turn it on. But to his horror no water came out. Y/n had planned that too, she had turned off the water to the floor they were one. At seeing this, Loki too burst out laughing and Thor ran out of the room.

Once they both caught their breathes, they turned to look at each other, their smiles still plastered on their faces. Loki let a little chuckle escape his lips before saying with mischief in his eyes, "you know, he doesn't have much of a spice tolerance either."

At these words, Loki's mischief reflected into Y/n's eyes as she replied, "well, what do say if we cook dinner tonight then."

Loki's smile widen as he stood up and offered his hand to Y/n, "I'd love to."
