Mateo

Sunshine the little minx is sprawled across the bonnet her hair dyed an array of colours resembling a fire. A subliminal warning – beware devil spawn in black stilettoes. Nice to look at nice to hold but oh burn you she will. This is what I was dragged here to – little mis Sunshine and Alex nervously leaning against the car, hands in his pockets like he always does when he's nervous. Serves him right. She's not even looking at him, enthralled in her phone her heal tap tapping on the tesla and when she does look up its at Ozias.

MMhhhmmghuurgh, I glance over at Ben and his unceremonious throat clearing. He's glaring at me through the rear-view mirror. I look back at the trio – what's he playing at. He really thinks he's got a chance at happiness with this one.

"Out." Says Ben.

That's one nice car – you know what will look good some engraving. My keys are just the size, I think. Too bad I didn't bring it with.

"Patience, Mateo. Not a thing his highness excels at... and frankly neither do I." he says his voice low and annoyed breaking the silence.

The cheek of this one. He wouldn't dare pull this if Allex was here. I pull out my phone finally checking I didn't crack the thing.

"Of all the spoiled brats – a dam Plebby." Mutters Ben, finally getting out. Plebby, oh you classist pig. You think you're better than me because my parentage wasn't a business transaction. But to equate me to uncivilised, vulgar, uncultured ...

He swings open the door with a controlled force, glaring at me.

I nonchalantly get out with a smug smile.

"I can make your life very difficult." He says.

"So can I." I retaught walking past him towards dumb, dumber, and jackass.

"Mateo!" Allex's voice echoes across the moonlit courtyard his voice wild with electric excitement. His eyes wide and dilated as he practically skitters over to me. "I told you; I told you he would get it." He exclaims. He pulls me into a quick hug: "Am I glad to see you." He says smiling wildly. "She's acting weird." He whispers a little too loud, glancing back, eyes wide exposing the cracks in his confident façade "I need backup." He says, his words tumbling out nervously tripping over each other.

Yes, Sunshine, the enigma – the girl who wears stardust in her hair and dances on the edge of reality. How has she ensnared you again?

"Allex, we've got to talk." My voice cuts through the haze, but he's already off on another wavelength.

His grin doesn't waver: "You brought it?" He's like a puppy chasing his tail, his eyes darting.

I hesitate, my frustration simmering: "Yes, but..."

"Great. She will love this. Did you see her? Did you see her hair?" His fingers fluttering around his head, mimicking a celestial halo.

"Alex," I try again, "About tonight..."

"It's going to be epic." He interrupts, practically vibrating with excitement. "I can finally win her back. I knew it. She still likes me. You. You were too hasty. I should have never let her go."

"It's not okay dragging me into this." I say, my patience fraying. "I'm not your emotional Swiss army knife, Allex."

His tone sharpens: "Oh now, I dragged you here. You told me to let her be. I could still be with her. You were too hasty. I should have never let her go." His words spill out.

Gripping the bottle tighter: "She broke up with you." I remind him.

"Girls don't know what they want. If I hadn't listened to you, we'd still be together." He rambles.
