WATER DRIPPED FROM the ends of Kesani's free form locs onto the bright screen of his phone as he sat uncomfortably wet in Giavonni's truck.

In. Giavonni's. Truck.

He tried texting and typing on his phone to hide the pure excitement he was feeling but there wasn't anything interesting enough in his phone at a time like that.

He was literally sitting in Giavonni's passenger seat - with her - as she wore his jacket - driving him home.

Kesani felt like he had to unintentionally put himself in la la land again. He even tried to scratch himself a few times.

His shirt was mostly soaked and his pants the same but he felt that was a worthy sacrifice to be alone in her presence for such a long period of time.

The car ride was silent between them as Giavonni's playlist of alternative music played the whole time. He didn't need to talk to her anyway, he couldn't get his sentences right when he did so silence was a great substitute for embarrassing himself.

He looked up from his messages with Ms. Santana seeing Giavonni was pulling down the street making his heart clench at the fact it was already over. Probably the greatest 20 minutes of his life.

"Which house?" Giavonni asked.

"149." Kesani pointed, picking his book bag up from the floor in front of him with his shaky hands.

Giavonni nodded to the information, driving up a little more to the pretty home, parking close to the side walk so he'd have to walk less.

Kesani was going to thank her, but saw her begin to take the hood of his jacket off and unzip it.

"You gon be good without it?" He proposed since the rain hadn't stopped or eased up yet.

Giavonni shrugged. "It's just a walk to the house. And you're already wet, you don't want it back?"

Kesani shook his head. "I could get it back another time. You good."

"Thank you." Giavonni gave a tight lipped smile.

"Thank you fa the ride." Kesani nodded in return.

He didn't know why she was talking to him and being nice all of a sudden, but this was the most she'd ever said to him so he was just accepting it for the moment.
