Name meaning: of the sea

Background: Her full name is Marina Everly Rios. She is mixed, having been born to a human father, David Rios, and a mermaid, Coral Rios. Her mother turned human for a time, she pulled a Little Mermaid somehow. Her parents had to be careful, since mixing was not allowed. Regardless, her parents went on with their forbidden love. When the guards found out, they took her parents hostage, giving them a chance to separate before things went from bad to worse. They were more considerate than the emperor. So, because of this, Marina was left alone most of the time. She practically changed her own diapers. During her parents' short-lived matrimony, some masked people barged in out of nowhere in their small home and murdered her mother in front of Marina after discovering her relationship with her human father, since it was prohibited. It was ordered by the emperor Aemilius Antias of their land to do so. The sirens ratted her out to Aemilius, which is why Marina despises them now and wants to kill them (which she does eventually). Because of her parents' wrongdoing, she was cursed by Aemilius that she couldn't be away from the sea for more than 24 hours before her skin started getting dry and crusty and she started dehydrating. When she gets angry, her blue eyes glow and the veins on her neck bulge out and become a reddish color. Her father disappeared when she was 14, leaving her on her own. When her father went missing, she lived in the ocean to be away from the prying, hateful eyes of the people. There, she started a relationship with a merman named Dylan Aqua. Marina broke up with him however since he was an abusive asshole. Anyway, she is determined to find her missing father and annihilate the bastards that murdered her mother.
