Shit! My lips hurt, i can taste the rustiness of the blood that makes me want to vomit. Emily is in the driver's seat and me and Courtney are in the back. We were advised to go home to get cleaned up while Pigskin stays behind waiting to be sanctioned. Bitch got served, i thought. When I saw her hurting Courtney all i wanted to do is beat the living daylight out of her, but I remembered we were in school, sooner or later, teachers will come and find us. So when Pigskin started slapping me I did my best to cover my face but made sure a few slaps would hit me. I didnt slap her back because we'll both be in trouble. "Still a brilliant mind Ali". I said to myself. If there is anything good that came out of this situation, is that Em is finally talking to me again. Paige even accused her of being in love with me, of course she loves me, she's my bestfriend after all, but "inlove" i dont think so.

Em: Court how's your hand? Do you want to go to the hospital?

Court: No Em im good ill just ice this at home, thanks

Em: uhmmm, Ali? How bout you?

Her voice is so calming and her presence is soothing, I got lost in my thoughts that Court had to nudged me in the shoulder.

Me: me? Uhmm im good, i just need to rest, I think.

Em: okay, by the way Court what happened back there? You two were fine this morning.

Court: she got mad cause i dont want to sit with her for lunch, said im breaking our contract and im disposing her. I dont know, she was fine one second, then its as if I was talking to a different person in a snap of a finger.

Em: yeah, that's what I noticed too. Its like she's 3 persons in 1 body.

Court and Em chatted all the way home, I didnt know if I should join in the conversation or not, so I sat quietly on the back, thinking what mom's reaction would be to see my face like this. Em pulled over our driveway a few minutes later. Mom is already waiting anxiously on the front porch. Em and Court helped me get out of the car and mom run towards us.

Mom: my babies, what happened to both of you? Who did this to you??

She ran towards me and Court, she held my face and caressed Courtneys hand.

Court: mum, its ok, we're safe now

Mom: i cant believe this would happen to you at the place I thought you are safest.

Me: mom, we're fine really, but you need to go to school, Principal Marlene wants to talk to you.

Mom: Now? But who'll take care of you?

Court: mum, its okay, ill drive you to school, since they need my side of the story also, Em? Could you stay with Ali till we get back?

Em: of course Court, and, Mrs. D, dont worry, ill take good care of your daughter.

My heart felt like it wanted to jump out of my chest. YES!!! some alone time with Emily. Paige can punch me anytime she wants as long as Em gets to be my nurse for the day. Emily helped me up the stairs, I feel like I have a hangover but never went to the party, my head is pounding, my back is aching, almost everything hurts, one thing that isnt, is my happy heart. I could look at Em all day and be thankful to Paige, if not for her Em might never look at me this way again. Before mom an Court left, she whispered something in my ear.

Court: im hoping you'd do the right thing.

me: what?

Court: you and Emily, tell her

me: but, do you think she'll get mad at me?

Court: no buts Ali, I wont let you do something if I know you'll get hurt, if there's something im certain of, is that Em will NEVER hate you. Promise me you'll try.
