Yesterday's Rainne

CHAPTER 2

4:00 PM, I glance at my watch. Ang lakas ng ulan! Wala akong payong at wala akong alam pano ako makakauwi.

My classmates were all packing up their things. Habang ako, still dumbfounded, and don't know what to do.

I couldn't call my dad to pick me up, lowbat na phone ko huhuhu! I just sighted wala naman akong magagawa. My friends have different transportation plans, or busy pa sila, and I have yet to make new friends.

I just stayed at the hallway then waited for the rain to stop or humina man lang ito... I didn't go down to the ground floor, I can see from 4th floor that there's a lot of people crowding.

Nagmuni-muni muna ako, I didn't have my phone to distract me anyway.

I just thought about having a driver would be nice now. But you know what? I want to be a strong independent woman and it starts here, today! Hindi ako mababasa!

When the rain stopped, I went down to the ground floor. It was not as crowded as before, so it was okay.

Bago ako umalis ng school, I made sure that there was no rain. Wala naman. I just put the hood of my jacket just to be sure. Then go on my way.

Naglakad ako pababa sa antayan ng jeep. There were four choices for transportation. One, maglakad ulit pababa to go to the station. Two, wait at the opposite side of number one. Three, wait mismo sa crossing. Lastly, four, mag taxi.

I choose option 2, I heard mas madaming jeep dun. I walked up for a little reach my destination. When I reached the top, I saw Vaughn, he was with a girl. It was the girl na kasama niya nung lunch, I think? Are they together?

He saw me, I saw him, pero hindi nalang kami nagpansinan. I just waited for the jeep to arrive.

10 minutes of waiting, ang tagal naman! Ramdam ko na yung mga kwento sa'kin ni Tia nun! Is this really the spot na madaming jeep?

Umaambon na! Wala pa naman waiting shed 'tong spot na ito! Palakas ng palakas na yung mga patak, shit. Paiyak na ako, ganito pala kahirap mag commute.

"Yves Illuna, come here."

I turned to see who it was, it was Vaughn. "Inuustusan mo ba ako?" I sarcastically replied.

Ano bang ginagawa ko paiyak na talaga ako bakit gan'un pa sinagot ko? Gusto ko pa ata umuwing basang sisiw.

He opened his umbrella. In fairness, pang pamilya yung laki nung payong HAHAHA! Kasya ata buong section!

Nakatulala lang ako sa kanya so he suddenly pulled me closer to him, para mapayungan ako.

"I said come here diba? Gusto mo ba talagang mabasa? Don't get sick, okay? Wala akong mapapagtripan." Sabi niya.

Nagulat ako dun. Hindi ko alam ire-react ko so I shut up nalang. Tinignan ko yung babaeng kasama niya. She has her own payong. She was just staring at us.

Napansin ata ni Vaughn na nakatitig din ako sa kanya. So, he introduced us to each other.

"Uhm, Cesca this Yves Illuna, my seatmate. Yves this is Francesca de Perez, my best friend, she's from section C." He said as we were shaking hands.

"Nice meeting you, Cesca! I hope we can be good friends." Sambit ko sa kanya.

"Nice meeting you too! Sana okay ka pa kay Vaughn, medyo may pagka- ito eh! She answered back.

"Andyan na yung jeep, mamaya na yan!" Vaughn shouted. Finally, ang sakit na din ng paa ko sa blackshoes ko. Bakit nga ba ito pinili kong shoes!?

We continued chatting at the jeepney until we reached the terminal ng jeep. I made a new friend, yey!

She offered me if I want to tambay at 7/11. I gladly accepted, it was just near my jeepney station, so it was okay!

I bought snacks first while she and Vaughn find vacant seats. I went to the table where they were, after I paid for the snacks. Cesca stood up and brought drinks for us since it was me who paid for the snacks.

Me and Vaughn was left in the table. Tahimik lang siya using his phone, it was so awkward.

"Are you not gonna ask what happened that time? You're not curious at all?" I started the conversation.

Napatigil siya sa pagkalikot sa phone niya but he went back immediately. "It's none of my business, hindi din tayo gano'n ka close for me to ask you." He said while typing on his phone.

"Ohh" yun nalang nasagot ko habang binubuksan ko yung chips.

"But I can tell you are really strong... For you to look so down that day, to looking like you are the brightest star today, you did well." I stopped for a while and smiled. "Thankyou" I said softly.

I felt comfort from his words.

Ahh, this is the reason why he's, my crush.

"By the way, your bestfriend is texting me non stop. She saw us getting into the jeep can you tell to stop it, nakakairita." Dagdag niya pa, na panira ng moment.

"Lowbat na phone ko. Pwedeng pasabi na okay lang ako, I'm at 7/11 with you and Cesca." Sabi ko sabay subo ng chips.

"Noted, Madam."

Umupo na din sa Cesca sa tabi namin at kumain. Me and her were really clicking. Nag chismisan lang kami the whole time while Vaughn was quiet.

I found out they were friends since they were babies, just like me and Tia.

It was 6:00 when we decided to get home. Hinatid pa nila ako hangang makasakay ako ng jeep kasi hindi pa ako sanay.

I'm really thankful to them, especially Cesca. May pa libre pa kasing nalalaman itong si Vaughn, kasi daw hinatid pa daw niya ako hanggang paradahan ng jeep namin.

I went home late, but very happy. I was expecting that I was going to get scolded, but I didn't.

Papa and Daddy were very excited about the stories I had when we were having dinner. I told them everything. They were happy for me, for doing everything I want.

We finished dinner. I was supposed to wash the plates as usual but Dad insisted that I rest. So, I did.

...

The next day came, Vaughn was really bugging me about his lunch habang nag k-klase kami. Tumango nalang ako in annoyance.

I texted the GC so they will know na hindi sila luchies ko today.

Lunch na, very enthusiastic naman itong katabi ko sa lunch niya.

We didn't know what we were going to eat so we just agreed to order sa Food Panda 30 minutes before the class ends. Buti di kami nahuli ni Ma'am!

We fetched our food outside the gate but didn't know where to eat since we were both too lazy to go up to the 4th floor, again. So, we just roamed around and found a good spot with a good view of the mountains.

Umupo na kami at the concrete wall serving as a fence. We were quiet while were eating. Walang nagsasalita sa'ming dalawa. Just enjoying the moment.

I just stared at him for a while.

"Crush mo ko no?"

Muntik na'ko mabulunan! "In your dreams." I answered back with matching roll eyes then balik tingin sa view. Kunyari hindi yun totoo.

"Vaughn" I called him.

"Hmm?" He was chewing kaya he just hummed.

Napabuntong hininga ako bago ko sabihin sa kanya.

"Help me with math... please. Matalino ka naman diba?" I told him

His face had a smirk again. He's planning something again.

"Kiss muna." Reply niya.

Joke lang yun pero I heard one way to shut people up is to kiss them. So, I kissed him. Sa cheeks lang.

He looks so shocked HAHAHAHAA! "So, are you gonna help me?" I said and smiled at him annoyingly.

"Saan ka ba nahihirapan? It's our first lesson in math, Yves." He said with a serious face. Ang pogi!

"Lahat" maikli kong sagot.

"Seriously!?" He said while I nodded my head. He was silent for a moment.

"Sige,7/11?"
