Blood Feathers- The feathers of a developing bird as it grows to adulthood.
One blood feather is filled with blood as it grows, in order to be supplied with nutrients until it is fully grown. Then the blood flows back to the bird's body, leaving it with fully grown feathers. However, if a feather is broken off during this period of growth, the bird can potentially bleed to death.
