"What are you up to?"
Timothée poked his head from the doorframe, peering into Iseul's bedroom curiously. It was very spacious, with a king-sized bed, its own bathroom, and a ginormous walk-in closet, filled with many of her brand deals, music video costumes, and even a replica of her superhero outfit as Callista.
The said woman was sitting on the edge of her bed, busily placing blue-colored bills inside a long, vertical, red envelope with a large Chinese symbol on the front. "I'm preparing for tomorrow," Iseul replied.
Timothée sat in front of her and tilted his head. "I don't get it. What's the money for?"
"This is Aguinaldo for my younger cousins," Iseul answered, showing him the five one-thousand-peso bills inside one of the envelopes. "We give them to kids—sometimes teenagers—on Christmas. But since I didn't get to see them on Christmas, I'll give it to them tomorrow on New Year's."
"Should I... Should I also give them?" Timothée asked hesitantly. He didn't want to visit Iseul's family and come empty-handed, especially when they were graciously opening their home to him, despite not knowing who he was.
"You don't have to, Tim Tam." Iseul smiled.
"No, no, I wanna," Timothée shook his head, racing to his room to get his wallet, and swiftly ran back to Iseul's. She watched him in amusement as he fumbled with his wallet and frowned once he only found US dollars and a few Korean won. "I don't have any pesos."
"I can lend you some." Iseul offered.
"I can trade your pesos for dollars," Timothée said. "How much am I supposed to give?"
"Any amount you want," Iseul replied, bringing out several one-thousand and five-hundred-peso bills.
"How much are you giving them?"
"Five thousand pesos, which is equivalent to ninety dollars, I think."
"Per person?"
"Mhmm." Iseul hummed.
"Will fifty dollars be okay? How much is that in pesos?" Timothée asked, putting down several fifty dollars on the bed. "How many are your younger cousins anyway?"
"I have five cousins who are younger than eighteen, and fifty dollars is definitely more than enough," Iseul said, taking Timothée's money and replacing it with Philippine pesos. "That's almost three thousand pesos, I think? You can buy a lot with that. "
"Can you maybe tell me who your family members are?" Timothée asked as he put the money inside the red envelopes. "So I'll know who's who when we get there tomorrow. I'd like to make a good impression."
