Izuku was more than excited. His dad woke him up just before dawn to give him the same speech his father had given him. So what if it was an almost direct quote from a movie that was hundreds of years old? It was a sunrise Izuku would never forget. About eight o'clock, Inko drove herself, her son and her husband to the Quirk Specialist's to find out what his quirk would be.
The drive was all a blur to the young Midoriya, his excitement overshadowing everything. He was ecstatic to find out what his quirk would be because then he could tell Kachan and they would become the best heros together! He squeaked happily, a cute noise that made his parents chuckle. His smile only got bigger when they pulled into the parking lot and walked into the building.
"Midoriya?" the doctor called and the young boy pulled his parents down the hall to follow her.
The appointment went by quickly. Izuku was given a quick check up, asked some questions and then taken back for the X-Ray. After the X-Ray, Izuku was taken back to his parents to wait for the doctor to come back. When he did, he sat down and looked at the trio regretfully with a bit of scorn hidden in his expression.
"I'm sorry, but he's never gonna get a quirk." he said. "Not naturally, anyway." was added under his breath. Hisashi was the only one to hear it, but he didn't react outside of a side glance.
The rest of the day had been blocked out of Izuku's memory. The news was devastating and he could think of nothing else. At home, he ignored everything that was said to him and he laid in his room. He didn't want to talk to anyone and he didn't want to see anyone. It wasn't until hours after dinner before he came down. He pulled on his mother's hand, "Computer?" Inko could only smile sadly and nod.
After logging into the computer, Inko left her son to watch his favorite video. She sighed as she sat down beside her husband on the couch. The video would give her about thirty minutes before she had to tuck Izuku into bed.
"He'll be okay." Hisashi said.
"I know, I just-" she sighed again, "I worry about how he'll react to his friends' reactions. What if they bully him for this?"
Hisashi didn't let her thoughts go any further down that rabbit hole. He was worried that his actions earlier that morning would crush his son, but it was done and it was all he could think to do to keep his son safe and mostly out of harm's way. He didn't tell Inko of what he had done, though.
They sat together for the thirty minutes the video lasted. When that time was up, Inko went back up the stairs to get her son. What she walk in on made her start to cry. Izuku was sobbing, watching the end of the video again.
"Mom?" Izuku turned around and Inko only cried harder, "D-do you think I can still be....still be a hero?" he asked, "Can I still be like him?"
Inko engulfed her son in a hug and pulled him close, "I'm so sorry, Izuku!" She apologised as if it was her fault. The young boy didn't understand why she had said that, but he returned the hug anyway. Eventually, Inko picked up her now sleeping son and laid him down in his room.

"I'll be waiting for you to come back!" Izuku waved to his dad exactly a year and three days after his fifth birthday, "I love you!"
Hisashi smiled at his son, "I love you, too, Izu."
That was the last time Izuku saw his father. He waited by the door everyday for a year before he gave up. His mental health had been falling since he heard about his lack of a quirk, and waiting for his father to come home was only making it worse. So, he stopped waiting and he moved on with his life.
Three months after Hisashi disappeared, his cousin Tenko went missing. Izuku found out because it was the breaking story of the month. Apparently the entire backyard was destroyed, the house was caved in, and everyone was dead. The only reason they knew he was missing was because his body was the only one that hadn't left a piece behind. As gross as that sounds.
