"Shh.. I'm not one of them." He whispers. I let out a sigh of relief. I can't really make out most of his features. He's tall with dark messy hair and blue eyes that look like midsummer sky. He looks at me and knits his eyebrows as he moves back.
"This is not exactly a good place to just stand for this long. Follow me." He whispers.
"And you think I am just gonna follow you? I don't even know you." I whisper back folding my arms.
"Girl! I don't have time for your tantrums. I'm here for the same purpose, okay?" Does he know?
He then looks around and descends down the stairs , takes a right and goes towards the janitors' storeroom. He opens it slowly and gets in. I slowly tiptoe my way towards the storeroom and do the same.
The storeroom is big enough to fit in 5 people and is surprisingly comfortable for two to sit down and sip a cup of coffee, which I wouldn't recommend as the odor in this room which is of latex and phenol is strong enough to numb smelling senses for a few good hours.
We stand there in silence and wait to see if we hear anyone outside the room.
"What are you doing here? How did you get in?" I ask in a small tone turning my volume to 1.
"I'm trying to find out who these are. I've been tracking them down since the train incident in Sawe." The train incident. In Sawe , the city of techies was recently attacked by a troop of people in the metro. Few people were shot dead and the rest went missing.
"What are they after?"
"I'm here to find that out. I was in the train too but managed to escape at the right time. Unfortunately, my friend got killed. I'm here to find out why." He says as his eyes drift to the shelf containing latex.
I often find myself stuck in these kind of situations where I don't know what to say. All that comes out of my mouth is "Oh".
"What about you?"
At this point I had the urge to be sarcastic but something about his face told me it's not the best time or place to do that.
"My family is stuck in Matrix."
"So you decided to save them?"
What's the purpose of your visit, Mia? What was I even thinking? Save them ? What are the odds?
"I don't know if I can but I sure am trying to."
"Okay then let's form an alliance. I'll tell you my plan. Okay ?"
I took my time to decide on this. An alliance, an accomplice. Maybe this guy can help save my mom and Cyn."Okay."
"I'm Robert and here's the plan. We go to the nearest store grab blue T-shirts and wait till these people get out of that store.I've been calculating the duration of their visit and how much time it takes them to get another trio to the store. I'm sure they'll come out of there in about 10 minutes now. So we need to get the T-shirts as soon as possible."
"Okay but what are we going to do after getting in?"
"Well, we will have 5 minutes to get all the information from that store and then we can use it against them."
"Wait, what? I thought this was going to be a simple 'get mom and sis and escape' plan. So we're like going to fight the Blue people?" I have no idea how many times I tried to name this troop. Blue Team? Blue people?
"What about the rest? You don't want them to get back to their families?"
That's when I realised that my mind had been too preoccupied thinking of ways to save my family that I never thought about other people.
"You're right. Let's go." I say moving towards the door." By the way, I'm Mia." I press my ears to the door and once I'm sure it's dead silent outside I step out.
We make our way towards the nearest store. I take out my torch and find a blue T-shirt that says 'Science isn't about why.. It is about why not?'. I quickly change. Again!
Robert comes back wearing a lighter shade of blue which matches his eyes. It had a picture of Shakespeare with 'Better a witty fool than a foolish wit' written on it.
"Where art thou, Mia?"He smirks as he walks towards me.
"Right in front of you, witty fool." I say as we head out and get back to our original position at the top of the stairs waiting for them to get out.
Things go according to our (his) plan and we find ourselves in front of the Super Fluffy Bunny(the one with the tabloid).
"So,I assume you know the password?"I ask him.
"Yeah, keep watch as I type it in. It's actually 'neuroscience'. Weird password."
Wisdom.. Neuroscience.. Intelligence.. Nerdy guy. I'm just missing one piece of information to know the truth about this troop. I stand next to Robert and look out.
Fortunately, the odds were in our favor. The store shutter opened noiselessly. We got in immediately and felt our mouths drop.
The store looked so futuristic that I thought I had managed leap through time. There were 3 equipments that looked like the ones at dentists' but had a huge upside down bowl with a lot of wires attached to it. Next to them stood tall translucent tabloids containing some information in blue. The rest of the room was filled with charts and posters related to the speed of neutrons and human evolution.
"This looks bad." I say as I move towards one of the tabloids.
"It just doesn't make sense though. I mean, why did they have to kill people to promote neuroscience." Robert says scratching his head.
"It's not about promoting neuroscience. I think they are trying evolve humans to a higher intelligent level. Which is not possible because every human is born different and not everyone has the same way of understanding or has quick reflexes."
"You're right, honey." A woman with thick French accent says.
I turn around and see the same lady who was giving the people in Matrix a sort of speech. Along with her are two men, wearing similar T-shirts.
"Capture them." She says to the two men beside her.
