Candice's POV
"A wah sour suh?" Caneike hated the smell of fish, puked all over me on our 16th birthday at Sharkies Seafood Restaurant. I think that's when I slowly started to resent her.
"Sour like yuh mumma front dutty gyal"
I wonder why Jamaican parents like to tell their kids about their mother?
"A you say it enuh Ms. Donna" I said as I walked towards her to help with scaling the fish. It's truly a wonder how Caneike and I shared a room together from before birth. I love everything she hates.
Nothing nuh beat a good steam fish and crackers or curry run dung.
"So sister gyal," there she goes. Caneike had this tone whenever she want to fass inah ppl bizniz.
"Weh yah ask mi now Neik?" I interrupted obviously annoyed. She gave me a look that said "I don't care how you react, I'm still going to ask my question""Anyways, cause yuh shit cyah mek patty," she said rolling her eyes "yuh see the picture mi send yuh bout the outfit fi gah party tonight?"
Shit. I forgot
"Mi phone drop innah water today, but mi find smaddy fi fix it. Mi deven know if mi have all a mi contacts" I said with my nose scrunched as I fought the scales off the barracuda.
Mommy was making my favorite meal for my last few days left in Jamaica, she always did that whenever I was here.
"Of course yuh wouldah have some excuse" Neik was annoyed. She knew I wasn't the party girl. She knew trying to get me out would be a task, which is why she went to the market and picked out the barracuda herself, regardless of how sick it made her.
The gyal will guh to the ends of the earth if it means she'd get to do her favorite thing with me.
Caneike loves me, way more than I do her, and I'm not too proud to admit it. We were fraternal twins, and we had different fathers.
Mommy did well active inah dem days deh.
Knowing I had the opportunity to move out of the hell hole that is the environment we were living in is amazing and all, but I knew that the only thing I ever wanted, that was to see my parents together, I'd never have because Neike was not my dad's child.
Caneike had left me alone with my thoughts in the kitchen for the last 15 minutes, when she returned with a mesh neon green suit.
A dem skimpy sumn yah Neik wear gah party?
"See mi find something yuh can wear"
"Shit!" I sliced my finger analyzing the pieces of garments Neik had the nerves to refer to as "clothes" and more so the nerve to suggest them to me.
"No." I said sharply as I ran the hot water on the cut.
"Deece, mi nearly dead inah the market just fi get the likkle fish carry come fi yuh, you promised."
And I did promise. At the time I thought she would've backed out and given up.
"Alright." I gave up "but if shit guh side way just know say a your fault"
"Why pon yuh talk siskii, nth nah guh side way just forward wid me. A me name party princess enuh. Party start 9 we nah leff till 11. Suh yuh have time fi nyam yuh food cause mi know yuh cyah drink pon empty belly like me. Me a gremlin."
We laughed uncontrollably. Gremlin for real.

10:45 p.m
"Gyal yuh nuh done all now?" Caneike had a way with her. Dutty style. She's been in the bathroom for the past half hour.
Good ting nuhbaddy mi know nah guh deh deh.
Hey
An unknown number texted my damaged phone.
Hey, this is Candice. Lost all my contacts, who is this?
-The one & only Don babez
He is so full of himself .
Oh hey Dontae. What's up?
-Deh pon ih endz a one party. A pree fi cut soon stillz anuh my style dis.
Oh that's funny cause my sister and I are getting ready to go to a party actually.
-Who a yuh sister?
Caneike Powell.
-PartyPrincess Caneike?
Uhm.. yeah... do you know her?
-Di wulla John's Road guh straight back to Cumberland know PartyPrincess babez.
Did this mean my sister was a commonaz?
"Mi ready now" my sister said walking out of the bathroom looking like a completely different person due to her heavily applied makeup.
I looked at her slightly confused. I knew she was extremely popular but I wondered if she was just "known" or "common" . I hated drama & Caneike lived for it. She would often get herself in trouble with other girls and I couldn't afford to have anything happen to me during my stay here.
