[ Trigger warning! Descriptions of self-harm! ]
- Mara -
•••
Mara has encountered a few vampires during her lifetime and all interactions ended in them dying by her hand. She can usually spot a vampire with a single glance like the rest of her people could. They have a particular hatred for them so telling them apart is very essential.
However, this time, it's different. When the realization settled in, the shock washed over her like typhoon waves. Mara just couldn't believe it. She knew the man on the shore was odd, had strange features, and had an even weirder smell but the thought of him being a vampire never crossed her mind. There's something about him that must have thrown her off. But instead of figuring out what's wrong with this vampire, all feelings of confusion and shock quickly dissolved into anger and disgust. Mara really hated those bloodsuckers with a passion.
Vampires and Sirens have been rivals for centuries on centuries. The main reason is because both species feast on humans and there can be only so many creatures snatching humans up without them being noticed by the prey. Also, vampires made it a regular habit to stalk sirens down on their hunts and steal their food. Other reasons for their rivalry, may have to do because when it comes to power both species are equally as greedy. So the fact that one species may be stronger than the other was enraging on itself. Because of that, sirens will attack vampires at any chance given and vampires will steal their meals for no reason but to provoke. There has been nothing but bloodshed between these two species and nothing will change as long as they share the same source of food and desire for power.
Mara couldn't stand them. The fact they have the audacity to ruin their hunts and take their meals was just so unforgiving. Not to mention the new accusations about vampires that have been going around as of late. The accusations are that vampires are now killing sirens and drinking their blood to gain their abilities along with the siren songs. The bloodsuckers already have a huge advantage just because they can walk on land so the fact they're now taking more from sirens made Mara burn with dangerous rage.
She scowls and glared dangerously at the vampire standing on the shore. He was smiling at her, his crimson lips curled up beautifully to show off his sharp and large fangs. In another situation, Mara would have been extremely envious of his pearly white fangs. But the only thing she could think about is how much she wants to rip his pretty face apart at the moment. Anger seeped into her blood when she realizes the reason why there weren't any boats or sailors around anymore. Judging from this bloodsucker's reeking smell, he must have taken them all for himself.
Typical selfish vampire behavior.
Mara grits her teeth together. Vampires are completely immune to siren songs so the way he acted in those few seconds must have been fake. He only pretended to be enchanted to mock her and as long as he stayed on land, there was nothing she could do to him. He was out of her range. Mara lets out a huff of frustration and quickly dove her head underwater. Her anger was bubbling and she needed something to make it tip over. She looked around for anything that would help her take her fury out and eventually, her eyes made contact with a pointy seashell laying peacefully on the seabed. Mara immediately swam down and swept the shell into her hands. Without any hesitation, she closes her hand and lets the ridges of the seashell cut into her tough skin. The sharpness pushed and pushed onto her flesh before the skin finally broke and black blood oozed from the fresh wounds on her palm. Mara continued to squeeze tightly.
The sharp feeling of the harsh pain from her palm made the burning anger in her chest subside a bit. She closes her eyes and focuses on the painful sensation erupting from her hand. When she opens her eyes again, she felt like she can continue moving and not force herself on shore to grab that vampire. Mara decided to swim back to her cove that was nearby to rest, it was typically the one where she would drag her meals back to properly feast without interruptions.
