Alice's POV
He pulls over on the side of the free way bridge over looking some water, and turns off the car. He turns around and reaches into the back seat and grabs something plastic. Turning around he brings forward a blue bag.He pours it onto his lap. Inside is a bag of cheez-its, a bunch of jolly ranches that he puts into the center cup holder, and mini snickers and Reese's. Smart man. Attacking me where the heart is; food. "Take what you like." I like it all...allll. Then that's when I realize I am suddenly staring at him and not the snacks.
"May I have a snickers?" I ask with a shy smile. "Grab it." He retorts.
I'm sure my face is reddening.
Grabbing a cheez-it snack bag from his lap, he hands it to me and then pulls out his jolly ranchers and faces towards me for his own.
"Tell me about your self." He says
I grab my cheese-itz and start munching.
"Well, I'm seventeen. I go to Columbia High, I'm a going to be a senior there-"
"I don't care about that. Tell me about you. What you like to do." He says interrupting me.
I blink away his rudeness "I enjoy meditation, I like yoga, I love to sing and dance, I like reading books and going to amusement parks. Your turn?"
"I like to have fun and try new things. I like to adventure and do some wild things. I live life like its my last day on earth. That pretty much sums me up." He says grinning.
"Sounds fun." I mumble through a mouth full of crackers.
He smacks on his candy and gazes at me as I chew. It's nerve racking. I stop chewing and wait for whatever he's about to do.
"Yea it's pretty great. We're polar opposites, you know." He finally says. He stops and gazes at me with such intensity I can't look away from, I am captivated. "Sweet heart." he leans closer. "I want to show you how to live a little. You can't be afraid of life, or life will bully you down to doing nothing." He sits back.
I swallow hard as he stares at me waiting for me to respond. When I don't, he breaks the gaze and pulls out another jolly rancher.
"Tell me more about yourself. Where's your dad? Do you have any other siblings. I want to know your life story." He says
"My father left after I was born. I am an only child. I've been on the honor roll since middle school, I'm on the student council. I'm well liked around the sch-"
"Is there anything else that you do other than school. It's great that you are where you are in school. But your life should be more than just school." He cuts me off
I swallow. I don't really do to much with my life other than school and volunteer work here and there.
"I do volunteer work here and there." I squeak out.
"Your life, is not interesting." He wags his finger. "This summer, were going to make it the best summer you've ever had. I'll teach you how to live."
I'm not sure how to respond.
"What about you. What's your back story?""Im 19 and the kid who was always misbehaving. I'm pretty much almost ways rude or sarcastic to people who annoy me. Uhhh, I have a younger sister named Cassidy" he smiles at the mention of her name.
"I've had a tough up bringing. Dad used to beat me before he over dosed when I was fourteen. Mom doesn't really give a crap about me, but she cares for Cassidy." He sighs. "I pretty much just go by my own rules. And though I've had a tough up bringing, I love life like crazy." He says grinning."I don't know why to say. Sorry about your father..."
"Don't be sorry. He was a douche. It's better around the house now for me and Cassidy."
"So why are you here for the summer?"
"My mom kicked me out the house and told me to go somewhere else for the summer. So I called my aunt and she said that if I didn't misbehave to much that I could stay with her. Then she came to get me. My aunt is a good person."
I nod my head and open another pack of cheese-itz, yawning in the process.
"What time do you usually go to sleep, sweet heart?" He asks me.
"Around 11."
I stuff five cheese-itz in my mouth at once and close the rest off. The car quietly comes to life and he pulls to the center of the road again. I pull on my seat belt and smile at him.
"Let's get you home then."
The car shoots forwards and I giggle as we pick up speed. He looks over to me and smiles brightly.
We're almost off the free way when bright red blue and white lights flash behind us.
"Darn...do I want to slow down or no?" He asks as if it's really an option not to pull over.
"Pull over."
He sighs and slows to a stop. The cop car stops behind us and the car door slams shut. My heart is pounding right now like crazy. What if he takes me to jail. I'm no longer sleepy anymore...thats for sure.
"Pretend to be severely injured." Conner says in a rush.
"What?! I can't." I say starting to hyper ventilate.
"We don't have a choice right now. Come on, act injured."
I can see the cop walking up to the car from the window. Conner looks at me with an expectant look. Before I can say anything he runs out the car toward the officer.
"Officer! Sir, please! She's injured. I have to get her to a hospital now." He sounds like he might be crying.
He grabs the officers hand and pulls him quicker to the car. I can't hide my shocked expression, but as soon as I know that in in view of the officer I fake a heart attack. Gasping and sputtering I open my car door and fall out clutching my chest. And with my other hand reaching up towards the officer.
His eyes go wide and he rushes over to me and squats down, unsure of what to do.
He presses his pager.
"I need an ambulance to I-5 immediately. We have a young girl, age of" he looks to Conner, who in fact does have fake tears running down his face."17." Conner says sadly.
"Age seventeen. Get here immediately."
"That's not necessary sir. The hospital is literally right down the road." Conner says tapping the mans shoulder.
He looks up at Conner then back to me. "Are you sure?"
"Yes! Yes! I just need to get her there, but it's right there!" Conner says panicked. His hands flailing in dramatic effect.
I clutch my chest tighter and grab the officers knee, almost throwing him off balance.
"Okay go." He helps lift me back into the car and pages the people to let them know not to come.
"Thank you. Thank you." Conner says in a hurry shaking the mans hand and running to the drivers side.
Conner speeds off, quickly hitting 120, and in the mirror the police car gets smaller and smaller until it disappears from view.
Conner wipes his face with his hand and grins at me.
"That's how you do it."
I can't even say anything back, I am so shocked that he just did that, and it worked.
