Alice's POV
"I'll see you soon, sweet heart." He says as he walks across the street, leaving me in the car.

I climb out from the car and try to find my key on the key ring to the house. I sulkily climb up the stairs to my room and toss my phone on my bed. I am so dead tired, but I can't sleep because of Conner. My mind won't let me sleep.

I lay flat on the bed, thinking about our adventure. He had said he wanted to to make my life more interesting and teach me how to live. He already makes me feel alive just being near him... And I want to feel it again.

I wake with a start. My phone is buzzing loudly near my ear. I groggily sit up and press answer without looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?"

"Yes honey, I have to take care of another person. I won't be home to make you breakfast. But I love you and I'll call you later okay?" My mom says.

"I love you too mom."

"Okay bye." She hangs up the phone.

I check the time. I see I've slept until 1 in the afternoon. Pulling myself up, I go and check the window immediately looking for Conner. He's not outside but that doesn't mean he isn't in the house. I'll just text him.

Me: "Hey."

I grab a pair of blue shorts and a white crop top . After I shower I check my phone again and see that I still have no messages. I see today is going to be a boring day.

Really need to get a life.

I'll go to animal shelter again, but this time I think I'll adopt a puppy. Satisfied with that conclusion, phone retrieved, the typing starts.

I text my mom.

Me: "Can I have a puppy?"

Mom: "Sure, but remember to care for him. And remember that this is your last year of school. You'll be a senior when it starts back up. When you go to college, I can't look after him. "

...She has a valid point there. Maybe I won't buy a puppy. I'll still go to help out at the shelter though.
Maybe I can have a puppy just for a while and then return him... but that wouldn't be right either. Snapping out of my head, I grab my car keys from the floor next to the bed, I run downstairs to the car.

...
"Hey Marlo!" I say leaning down to pet the small golden retriever puppy. He chases his tail and licks my palms. Without a doubt, he's adorable. "Can I take Marlo home for the day and then bring him back tomorrow?" I ask Rob, the animal shelter owner as I continue to admire Marlos clean soft coat of fur.

"Umm. Sure I guess. Only for you though. I know you'll take care of em." He says reaching down to join me. "Dog food? Need some?"

"Yes sir I do." Marlo begins to run circles around the small to us, but big to him, shelter room. Rob stands  goes to the back room, returning with a small dog food baggie, and a leash.

"Here you go." He hands me leash first.

I squeal in delight as I kneel down to leash the puppy. He runs straight into my arms as when I pick him up he's attempting to lick my face. I attach the leash, put the dog down, and excitedly head towards the door. "Let's go Marlo," I say as I push open the glass doors.

I stop before leaving to turn fully and smile at Rob who is even making this day possible.

"thank you Rob."

Then I turn and leave.

I don't go home, but to the park. There are practically no people in this park and its in a fenced in area. Perfect for little Marlo.

I grab a stick and toss it across the grass. Marlo hops towards the stick, giving me the giggles as he hops in and out of tall grass looks as a small golden ball of fur,

"That's a cute dog you have there." A deep voice says beside me.

I jump as Marlo tugs at my shoe laces. A tall male with bright blue eyes stares back at me. His eyes make me think of Conner. And thinking of Conner makes me check my phone. I still don't have any messages.

"Yes, this is Marlo." I say pining at my shoes strings. I pick up the stock and toss it through the air again.

"I'm Xavier." He says smiling and holding out his hand.

"I'm Alice." I shake his hand.

"And your very pretty. I just came over hear to tell you that and to also get your number before I leave." He says smiling showing his braces and dimple. It's adorable.

"Uhm...Sure."

I hand him my phone and calls himself and then programs his number into my phone before giving it back. "Thanks. I'll call you." He says before reaching down to throw stick Marlo just brought back and walking away. That easy to just...get a number. Confidence really is key I guess.
........
I take Marlo to my home and we sit up and watch a Vampire Diaries marathon on Netflix. Were we both eventually fall asleep on the couch. I wake and call the animal shelter to ask for another day with Marlo, while Marlo uses the bathroom outside.

"Sure! Sure! As long as you'd like. Just take care of him." Rob says sternly.

"Of course. Thank you."

I hang up the phone, stretch and out on Marlos leash. I take him for a walk around the neighborhood...possibly hoping to see a certain someone. But all I see is dog poop. I take the bag inside out and clean up after Marlo, depositing it in the nearest trash can.

I receive a text.
Xavier: "Do you want to go for some ice creme later? Bring Marlo?"

I feel like going out with Xavier is betraying Conner some how. But then again he is probably with some girl getting more lipstick smudges on his lips.

Me: "sure. What time?"

Xavier: "Around 5 maybe?"

Me: "Sure. Text me the address and i will meet you there."

I'm sure Conner won't mind me going out with someone else. After all, he say I needed to live a little.

A/N
I wish I met a guy like Conner. Minus all the stuff he gets himself into in the future consequences. But just someone who's not afraid to live life and disregard others opinions.

(To my younger 15 year old self who wrote the upper comment- I've met a wonderful guy like so. - a message from your 22 year old self)

Guys from books are always the best.
