(Child Macaque and Wukong drawn by me! NOTE: Ages are different in this fic. Mei and MK are 17, Red Son is technically centuries old but is considered 18 in mortal terms, and Wukong and Macaque are 20 in mortal terms when they meet MK!)
A rock on a quiet mountain day unexpectedly cracked open, revealing a rock egg.
And a powerful little monkey hatched out.
Beams of light pierced the sky, and the little monkey blinked owlishly, "Hello?" He called out. Rustling met his ears and he scooted forward, parting the branches of the bush. A black-furred monkey met him and nervously chirped, "Hello." The newly born monkey squeaked in surprise, "Who are you?"
---
A young Wukong peeked through the leaves, staring in awe at the 'humans' training. Macaque tugged at his arm and whispered, "They're learning about something. Humans gain power through runes and then, later on, learn from them. That's what one of the elders said, anyway."
Wukong smirked cheekily, "Well, as newly-crowned king, I say we grab the runes!" Macaque gasped, "What if we get caught?" Wukong pushed back strands of his hair behind his ears, "I'll go get them, then, and you wait for me. I'll share them with you!" Macaque hesitated, "Will you be fine alone?" Wukong nodded and snuck into the building.
A bag of runes and angry shouts later, Wukong presented Macaque with the runes proudly. "What do they do?" Wukong shrugged, "I don't know, but some of them are identical so we'll take one of each of them." They each swallowed each of the marble-like runes until none were left.
As they ate them, they were hit with knowledge about the new abilities they gained. Now to learn how to use them properly...
Wukong puffed out his chest, "Bear!" He shrunk in size. "Ugh, I said bear! Not shrink!" Macaque giggled while watching a couple of shadows swirl under his fingertips. This was fun.

When Wukong accidentally stumbled into the dragon's underwater home, the dragon simply invited him for tea. Something told him not to mess with the monkey.
Wukong chattered happily before gasping, "Oh! I will need a weapon to defend my people, won't I?" The dragon hummed in agreement, "Whatever you find you can use, young king." Wukong grinned and looked around the home, examining the weapons.
Just as he reached for a sword he suddenly placed his hand on a column.
And shrank it into a staff.
"This will do! Thank you!" The dragon nodded at the unpredictable youth, watching him walk up the river floor towards the surface, and sighed. This one was going to be a problem, he just knew it.
---
Wukong and Macaque were roughhousing together, rolling around in the mud and really messing each other up, laughing loudly. Wukong suddenly sat up, "What's that guy doing?" Macaque looked over and was equally confused.
A glowing man was riding a cloud, up into the sky.
Wukong looked at Macaque and grinned widely, "I'm gonna see what's up there." Macaque shrugged, "I'll let the others know. Don't be too long!" Wukong waved a hand at him and rushed off.
Wukong used his power of flight to grab a cloud, using his energy to get it to let him ride it. Then he ascended, flying past the clouds, high up in the sky. Then he reached a huge palace, full of glowing deities.
Wukong snuck around, exploring with pure awe. There was so much going on! He watched people in fancy clothes rushing about and frowned in confusion, why did they cover their bodies? It wasn't cold.
