"Aerin, I was so worried about you!", his mom exclaimed.
Her arms wrapped around his neck and engulfed him in a tight hug. He breathed in and sensed the intense and nauseating smell of a strong perfume coming off her.
He could feel Rowan's stare behind him, but he forced himself not to look back. He didn't say anything, for some reason, his mother's actions had provoked in him a sense of dislike towards her.
Elgar for some reason still had an arm placed on his shoulder and kept trying to pull him back from his mother, as if he was in danger. He remembered his words.
"Aerin, you really don't have any idea of the mess you made".
Aerin pulled back forcefully and freed himself from his mother's grasp. Her bright green eyes shone with a strange glint, one that felt so foreign and dangerous.
"Why did you do that?", she asked, for some reason she didn't sound angry, but excited.
Aerin didn't say anything, the reason behind his rushed escape was obvious, there was no need for him to say something. Her mother looked around and stopped on the person behind Aerin and Elgar, Rowan.
Her relaxed expression turned into one of fury.
"You beast! What are you doing inside here?!", her loud voice traveled through the room, overwhelming the people inside. Even Rowan was surprised by the sudden lash, his wolf ears lowered at the painful sound.
Aerin stared indifferently at her.
Don't show that you care.
"I'm here with my group to talk to the king".
Aerin's mother huffed.
"You? Haha", she laughed, Aerin would have believed her mad if she wasn't his mother, " you lost that kind of opportunity a long time ago!", she motioned for the pair of guards standing beside the only door in the room.
Aerin panicked as he saw the guards approaching Rowan.
"Are you the ruler of this kingdom, Haleth?", a loud deep voice roared through the room.
Aerin's small flowers trembled against his skin as if sensing danger. He turned around and looked at the person that had just entered the room.
The king stood there, between the two guards that had moved back to their guarding place on each side of the door. The king's large red cloak followed behind the his steps, the red color contrasting against the white marbled room.
Aerin could see the animal fur wrapped around his neck, the little hairs trickling against the elf's cheeks.
Arin moved out of the king's path slowly when he saw the elf's large steps directed towards his mother and not him.
He retreated until he stood beside Rowan, who smiled at him and carefully wrapped his hand around his wrist, making a gasp slip from his lips as the flowers on his wrist received gentle care for the first time.
"Listen to me Haleth", the king muttered, anger evident in his voice, "if I find out you have made drastic decisions again without my knowledge, the next head to lay unattached in my castle will be yours", he finished.
Haleth, Aerin's mother, gulped at his words and nodded slowly.
The king turned to Rowan, ignoring Aerin's presence.
"Follow me, I'll hear you, but listen to me carefully, one wrong word will take your head from you instead of Haleth's".
Rowan nodded, unbothered by the warning the king made.
When the King and Rowan, who looked unwilling to leave Aerin in the room, left with the two guards following behind them, Aerin's mother turned to him.
Aerin looked at her as she approached, standing straight.
His mother stood in front of him, she rose her hand and touched his cheek gently.
Aerin relaxed for a moment, the cool touch of her hand calming him for some reason. But the cold experience in his cheek left quickly, soon followed by a stinging heat, his neck cracked at the sudden movement of his head being thrown to the side.
His body fell down, and he looked up at his mother with wide eyes.
Her hand was still up in the air, the same position it had been when she'd slapped him. Her face was alarmingly dull as she stared down at him.
"I hope you know the consequences of your actions".
She said as she started walking towards the door, her heels clicked against the floor loudly, the sound filling the silence that invaded the room. Elgar was frozen in the background, staring at the woman leaving the room with a satisfied smile as she closed the door.
"Aerin?", Elgar asked in a whisper.
Aerin didn't say anything, he just stared at the floor as he stood slowly. The floor felt so cold beneath his feet so suddenly, making him shiver intensely.
"What happened when I was gone Elgar", he finally asked, looking back at the worried elf.
Elgar gulped.
"Elgar?", he pleaded.
The look his mother had given him terrified him, something awful happened when he was gone.
Elgar gave in and sighed. His hands trembled as he grasped at a pillar nearby
"It's Mara".
Aerin's eyes widened and a tight knot formed at his stomach, pulling tightly.
"What happened to her?".
Elgar shook his head.
"She could be dead by now".
"Where is she!?", Aerin's voice cracked as he almost screamed.
Elgar looked around as if making sure no one was hearing.
"The king's dungeons, she's in one of the cells".
