I am at Ansley's house.
She is currently disinfecting the floor where Elise puked up her cheerios on.
And I am currently trying not to puke, as Fletcher smashes his toy cars together on the light brown carpet, mocking the sounds Elise made as she retched her soul out onto the kitchen tiles.
Ansley stands up, shoves the disinfectant wipes underneath the sink cupboard, and spins around.
"Fletcher!"
Fletcher looks up from his toys; "Yes, mommy"?
The stare she gives might as well tor a hold beneath his knees making him fall all the way down to China.
"Stop. Making fun of your sister, and go to your room so I can talk to Nina".
Fletcher takes his toy cars and slumps into the hallway.
Ansley turns to me; "Now. Let's discuss why you came here," and takes the armchair next to the sofa I'm resting on.
I take a moment to consider what I'm going to say.
"Do you need water"?
"What"?
"You don't look so good".
Oh. The replusion I had felt moments before had presumably not yet left my face.
"I think I'll be okay".
"You sure"?
"Yes, but thank you for the offer".
"No problem. Now, what's going on with the little princess"?
I glance down at my protruding stomach; "She is not a princess, Ansley," I say with a laugh.
"Well, princess or not, she will learn how to be treated with royalty".
I had expected a larger, more vocalized reaction from her, considering me telling her I thought otherwise than what she had said, but I guess not.
"Well, I'm nervous. Remember how scared me and Connor were when I hallucinated before James was born? We are stressing out that something like that will happen again. Or worse".
"Okay, first off, I wasn't there for that traumatic event, but I remember how vividly you explained it to me".
"There might as well have been blood everywhere"!
"Well there wasn't, was there"?
I shake my head; "No".
"Right, Secondly, what could possibly be worse than you having another mild hallucination like the one you had with James"?
I stare at her.
"WELL. Let's see," and I tick off my fingers; "miscarriage, extreme blood loss leading to death, fatal birthing of the child, I die, me and my daughter both die, another hallucination, and that's just the beginning to 98 thoughts".
Now it's her turn to stare.
"You," and she leans forward, putting her hands on my knees; "need to chill the Hell out".
"Me"?
She points at me; "Right now. I am the chill one here".
I roll my eyes and say; "I've been feeling like I'm not enough for Connor lately".
Like I expected, she slaps her hand over my mouth and shoves her face into my face, and growls; "No. Remember what I told you in the hospital when you were just a teenager, in the middle of a death war"?
