Chapter IX – Requiem
"JON!" Celestine forced herself to break free but the rope won't budge. The man let Serena go and slowly walked towards Jon's body. Amused by what he has done.
"Mommy!" Serena immediately ran towards Celestine.
"Are you alright?" Celestine asked, still trying to loosen up the rope.
Serena nodded in reply.
"I once told you to stay away from sharp pointy objects, right?" Serena nodded again. "Now forget that. Mommy wants you to find one quickly. Okay?"
"Okay." she replied.
"Now go!"
Serena started to look around while the man stood right beside Jon. His bandages were stained with blood. Celestine assumed that his wounds were still fresh. She couldn't recognize him with all the bandages wrapped around his face and body. He looked as if he's trying believe that Jon was still alive.
"You won't die with just a gunshot wound on your stomach." The man said.
"Look at me! Half of my body has 3rd degree burns!"
He kicked Jon in the gut and Jon groaned in pain. Celestine was relieved to see that he was alive. He turned around and managed himself to sit leaning his back against the desk. He stared at the man.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"What? You don't recognize me after what you did to me at the prison?!" He hit him with his gun. Jon spat blood from his mouth.
"Ah, Dr. Llanes, I knew your voice sounded familiar." Jon said. "Some weeds really don't die easily."
There was sudden beep on the monitor. And the timer now read zero.
"Confirm Launch Sequence." Celine said.
Dr. Llanes pointed his gun at Jon's face. "Stop it or I'll blow your head."
"I never anticipated that you're the type of person to save the world."
"If every one dies, there won't be any clients to work with."
"That make sense. But I'm afraid I can't stop now." He kicked him on his legs and Dr. Llanes dropped to the floor. He instantly pointed his gun to Jon but he was too late. Jon already had a gun on his head, which he was hiding in his pocket. And without hesitation he shot Dr. Llanes on the head.
"That's how you blow up someone's head. No drama." He helped himself to get up. "Celine, begin Operation Requiem."
"As you wish."
All around the world, the earth trembled as each nuclear missile was launched, targetting any civilization that comes it way.
Serena was able to find a knife and helped Celestine cut the rope. She ran towards Jon who was bleeding to death.
"Where's the first aid kit?" she asked.
"First room on the left." he said.
She hurriedly went to get the med kit leaving Serena with him.
"Hi. What's your name?" Jon asked.
Serena hesitated. "Mommy told me not to talk to strangers."
Jon chuckled. "Oh, no. I'm no stranger. I'm a friend of your Mommy."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Uh, I'm Serena."
"What a lovely name for a beatiful girl. My name is Jon." he said. "You have beautiful eyes like your mother."
