Episode One, Part 2:
False Starts

Wynn was getting anxious just treading water, not knowing how things were going back at Basilisk. He knew that if he was being realistic, he and Elara probably had a good hour left to simply sit and wait, but he was eager to get a headstart on their journey back home.

"I think it's safe if we want to leave now," Wynn announced as he stood up. He scanned the area once before he began to place everything back in his bag, convincing himself that he was right to leave now.

"Ell, come on, we're gonna move," Wynn mumbled, softly nudging onto his sister's arm. He waited for a response, for her to acknowledge that he had spoken, but she didn't. She was sitting completely still, staring straight ahead at what was in front of her.

Wynn followed her eye line, afraid for a moment that she could see someone, but there was no one else around. Worried, he let go of his bag and crouched down to the ground, getting closer to her. He tugged on her arm, waved a hand in front of her face, but she didn't respond.

"Ell," he pleaded, his voice low and serious now. "Can you hear me? Elara?"

She drew in a sharp breath as though she was suddenly jolted back into her body, and her eyes flickered over to her brother.

"Are you okay?" Wynn asked.

"I..." The girl mumbled, trying to make sense of things. "A vision..." she continued.

"You had a vision?" Wynn panicked, struggling to understand how she could have one right beside him, and he didn't even notice. As he hurried to dig through her bag, searching for a needle of the serum, Elara answered.

"Not completely... But I think I was beginning to... I don't understand how-"

"Hey, it's alright," Wynn consoled her, finally locating the serum. "We left so early that we probably missed when you should have had some. It doesn't mean anything."

Elara nodded, trying to bury away her fear as she rolled up her sleeve. Her brother took hold of her arm, nervous as he brought the needle close to her skin. He hadn't done this before; Aeryn, Kodiak and Elara had all taken care of the serum, and he didn't want to mess anything up.

"I can do it," Elara murmured, seeing how hesitant he was.

"No, it's okay," Wynn assured her. "You're shaking. I'm your big brother; let me do this for you."

Elara nodded, drawing in a sharp breath as Wynn injected the serum into her veins. He was careful but unsure as he watched the blue liquid disappear from the needle, finding a home in his sister.

"How do you feel?" He asked.

"I'm fine. Like you said, it's probably because we had to get up so early, or because I'm thinking about Ares and Quill."

Wynn frowned sympathetically, squeezing protectively onto her arm before he helped her up.

"Do you need a minute?"

"No, I want to get going. It's not doing me any favours to just wait around." Elara replied.

Making sure she was steady, Wynn picked up his bag and walked alongside his sister, keeping a close eye on her as they continued on, waiting for Kodiak to meet up with them.

Kane shifted his attention to Quill, having to evade the mournful looks that were coming from Ares. He knew if he didn't take control of the situation, then Rhea would, and things could go downhill for his family.

"Quill, why did you tell us that?"

"Because," Quill cried, "I knew about all of this. I knew they were lying to you."

"Why did you do that? You know what they want to do to her, Quill..." Ares interrupted. Both his brother and father were confronting him from different sides, trying to figure out who his loyalty was to, or what he wanted out of everything.

"This is Elara's life you're risking-" Ares added.

"Exactly! This is what it's about!" Kane growled, unable to look over at him. "This isn't some competition with your sister being the prize-"

"Really? Because that's what you're making it look like. Elara's made it clear where she wants to be, and it's not with you." Ares snapped, unprepared for his dad's intense grip on his arm, almost pulling him in line.

"We can't always do what we want. Sometimes we have responsibilities to people or purposes we were born for that we have to live up to. I'm sorry that you can't see yourself as anything more than who you were in the Bunker, but most of us have grown from who were down there. Elara being one of them. And she has to do this. She's the prophet."

Ares breathed heavily, snatching his hand away from his father. He knew it wasn't part of the plan, but he wanted nothing more in that moment than to lunge at his dad - finish him once and for all. But he couldn't. As ironic as it was, there was truth in his father's words: how sometimes you had to do something for your people. Sacrifice who you wanted to be for who you had to be for nothing other than the sake of survival.

"She's my sister. You're not taking her away." He spat.

Kane bit on his tongue, holding back on his anger. A smirk took over him. "Well, now that we know where she is, I don't think you have much choice in that matter..."

As his words trailed off, Ares narrowed his eyes in horror.

"Quill!" He grabbed onto his brother's arm, tugging him to look at him. To get him to see through everything else and focus on what he was saying.

"You know the plan..." he said, meaning beyond what everyone else could understand. "Tell him..."

Quill took hold of his brother's hand, squeezing it gently as he moved it off of him, his way of communicating to him. His eyes drifted over to their dad, who he stepped closer towards as if taking his side.

"I'm telling you the truth, dad. Elara's not here."
