character introductions

In a frigid, isolated land where the promise of tomorrow was a rarity, the brutal cold welcomed newcomers only to ensnare them. The royal family watched from their icy throne, as the unforgiving chill devoured the weak and unyielding. Yet, it was a realm that forged the fearless and the brave.

The relentless snow tapped harshly against the clear glass, but its sound was but a faint murmur amidst the lively chatter of the Bai Kingdom's people. Today marked a day of celebration, drawing crowds from all corners to honor the Bai Kingdom's new ruler.

A child, that's how some described her—a ruler who demanded anything and everything, regardless of the cost. A ruler who laid claim to what did not rightfully belong to her. How else could one define her The petite woman stood above her subjects, her hazel eyes surveying the bustling crowd. Her fair complexion, adorned with light freckles, appeared even paler against the harsh lighting, and her long brown hair framed her face.

"Raine," a monotone voice called to the small woman. "Silvia," Raine replied, but the exchange was followed by a heavy silence. Silvia's gaze remained fixed on Raine, who eventually broke the quietude. "Have you come to congratulate me on finally becoming queen?" Raine quipped, her tone tinged with sarcasm, her hand resting on her cheek as she leaned against the railing. Silvia's eyes sharpened in response.

"It can't be mere coincidence. I knew ever since the announcement of the new ruler of the Nithen kingdom that you'd seek to exploit the situation." "Well, of course, I had to. You know my mother wouldn't have done anything. She's so against everything my father stands for." There was a brief pause before their conversation continued.

"So, someone who knew what was right had to take charge. My mother is practically on her deathbed anyway. Surprisingly, it didn't take much convincing for her to relinquish her position to me." Silvia interjected quickly. "But why choose to take the position now? We both know your mother could have ruled for at least another five years." Raine took a deep breath. "You already know why, so why ask?" She shifted back into her comfortable position over the railing. "I'd hate to think you're discussing such matters with me when Yeiline has been searching for you."

Silvia's head turned toward the crowd. "Why don't you enjoy this time with Yeiline instead?" she suggested. After some time, Silvia's gaze softened, and she left without saying another word, her words a faint murmur as she descended the stairs. Raine returned her attention to her people. The storm outside was relentless, but a fiercer tempest loomed on the horizon.

Only five days remained until the ceremony.
