Deliver ran as fast as she could, after all, snow wolves were the fastest out of all the packs. She ran side by side with Blue, as they plowed through Snow drifts, and ran until the temperature began climbing. As they neared Wild pack's border, which as everyone knew, had the warmest climate. When she and her fellow omega reached the border they were panting, with exhaustion and from the heat. Looking out into Wild pack's territory, she saw its crumbled tan earth, and it had small wiry bushes growing from the cracks in the ground. The smell of the Wild pack was nearly unbearable. It smelled of rats and venom, and bile.
Deliver stepped back from the border and began sniffing. Someone has crossed over, she thought with a smile. Both wolves looked around, scanning the area. It was all flat ground, no where to hide. Sniffing the air as she walked, she followed the sent trail, as it wound through Snow pack's territory. When she thought she thought they had almost found their intruder, they were in Ice Nettles Place, where leafless trees grew straight up. Some of the elder hunters said that when Snowybird, the first leader of Snow pack, had died, when she went to join their ancestors, she had stuck the large stick like trees in the ground. But Ice Nettles Place was nearly on the other side of the territory, meaning the wolf that had tresspassed, had trekked through their whole land. Sniffing, she wondered how a Wild wolf could hear these freezing temperatures, they had thin coats of wiry black or brown hair. They look just like what they smell like, Deliver thought, rats.
She heard a sound. Immediately crouching, she waved her tail to Blue, to signal him to sit. The wolves waited, as a grey furred Wild wolf stood just a hair away. Be was lost it seemed, with snow on his back and around his ears. He was trudging through the snow, which came up to his belly. Snow wolves had been taught to walk lightly on top of the snow.
Deliver crouched. Getting as low to the ground as she could, hoping the intruder wouldn't spot her black pelt in the white landscape. Then, she sprung at the wolf. Driving her paws into him, and pinning him down. She bit into the back of his neck, and almost recoiled at the touch of his stringy, light fur. The Wolf yelped, and went limp beneath her paws. She knew that Snow wolves were supposed to reason with intruders, before attacking, but this was over the line.
" Let him go!" She heard Blue howl. Reluctantly, Deliver got off her opponent. His blood now stained her muzzle. The Wolf gasped, and stood, looking at the two of them. After a moment of silence the Wild wolf spoke: " Hi, I'm Fang." Deliver's frustration grew to be too much for her to handle.
" Does your greedy pack, not have enough territory already? They own half the valley! You should have never crossed our borders, because now you have to deal with me." Deliver growled, her anger subdued for now. The Wild wolf seemed calm, first he sat in the snow, and began licking his wounds, then the looked at her. He had big yellow eyes, reminding her of an owl.
" My friends call me Owl's Eyes, I have no clue why," the Wild wolf joked. Deliver wanted to kill the wolf now, he comes into my pack's territory, and tells us joke?!
"You are trespassing you rat-dog, now leave before I rip your smelly head off." Deliver growled stepping forward towards the Wild wolf. Blue stood and took a place besides her.
" Why are you hear Owl's Eyes?" Blue asked, his voice full of understanding, it made Deliver even more angry, someone invades our clearly marked borders, and he treats him like a pup?
" I only wanted friends, and I think I've found some," Owl's Eyes said, looking right at Deliver, with innocent eyes. This time Deliver didn't think, she spoke.
" If he weren't here to hold me back, I'd rip your throat out, and show it to your packmates, to show them what Snow wolves can do!" Deliver howled, her voice deep, but forceful. She took another step forward, nearly touching noses with the trespasser. She glared into his owl like eyes, but he showed no signs of fleeing, or fighting back, instead be did something that made her heart leap. He licked her nose. Her eyes grew wide. She felt her stomach sink with confusion, and admiration. But when Deliver got confused, she tried to stop what was making her feel that way, often times destroying it.
Deliver FLUNG all her weigh onto the newcomer, his eyes also growing wide with fear. And that's what Deliver secretly wanted. To be feared. She bit into the soft spot on the wolf's left shoulder. He howled in pain and began flailing about, twisting and turning, trying to throw of his attacker. Suddenly, Deliver felt jaws clamp around her scruff, and she was yanked backwards. What she realized it wasn't Owl's Eyes, she immediately knew it was Blue. Struggling to face her friend, she got herself free, and stood nose to nose with him.
" Why would you do that? We are supposed to show compaction, and maybe some punishment, but never like this Deliver," Blue said in a soft voice, as if he were lecturing a pup. I am not a pup, and so-help-me, if you treat me like this I'm gonna,
" I'm not a pup, I'm do what I want, I'm strongest in our pack and you know it, so show some respect. When I'm leader, Snow pack will be the most feared in all the valley, and we will start by killing off all of you," Deliver said, slowly turning to face the intruder, who was still wincing in pain over his lethal bites.
" Leave," She growled at Owl's Eyes, but as he passed her, he whispered, " Meet me here at dusk tomorrow," Deliver growled at the thought of betraying her pack to see this stranger. She looked back at Blue, his eyes filled with worry and hurt.
" What are you staring at!" Deliver spat, stepping forward, and making herself larger, causing Blue to crouch in fear. Her once best friend was now her rival. She wanted to leave this pack. She felt like she didn't belong, she felt like a delivery pup. She flinched at the thought of not being born in this pack, but that was how she felt. Blue stared at her, with his big innocent blue eyes. After a few moments, he trotted off. In a fit of anger, Deliver ran up the Snow wolves' side of the mountain and howled as deep and as low as she could.
After returning with no food, and had a face that said, ' I just got beat up by a pup', she expected more wolves then just Coldpaw to confront her.
" Whats the matter Deliver, you look like you just swallowed a bee's hive." The young Hunter said, walking along side her.
" Nothing, I'm just disappointed that I couldn't catch anything." She said. It had become very easy for her to tell a good lie to a packmate.
" Well it's a full moon, and you missed the meeting, not to mention it's almost dawn," Coldpaw said, as they reached the omega den. Deliver's heart sank, she and Asher loved going to meetings together, but she would apologize in the morning.
" What happened?" Deliver asked, hoping to get up to speed with all the packs.
" Well Misty of the Mountain pack was appointed healer, and in Wild pack, they reported an Omega missing." Coldpaw said, thinking back, " And we announced the arrival of Moons' pups." Deliver was surprised, Moons had her pups already?
" Thank you Coldpaw," Deliver said, " I'll see the pups in the morning." Coldpaw gave a friendly wave of his tail as he stalked off to the hunter's den. She looked at her sleeping packmates. She saw Asher in her usual spot, next to her's, but, Blue's bed was empty. She saw the silver wolf cued up by the wall of the den, instead of sleeping next to her. Fine, let him hold a grudge, I hope a tree falls on him! Deliver thought as she laid down next to her sister. She slept a dreamless sleep.
