Darkness, loneliness, and death. There are no other remarkable feelings in these moments, other than complete despair. To be precise, the world had just reached a dead end, and the few left from your kin were wondering whether to continue fighting or following the rest of humanity.
After all, you are just a kid. A kid trapped in an apocaliptic world, without hopes or dreams to cling onto.

...

These thoughts staining your mind soon dissapeared, as a strange being with extremely pointy fangs grabbed your hand and led you somewhere. In the distance, you could hear a feminine voice announcing something:

"The foolish humans have dared to tamper the untouchable, and the world where we all are left to live is the result of such naîve actions. All of humanity excluding children younger than 13 have died due to a virus that has spread uncontrollably through all of earth. The few individuals left will be handled with care by us vampires, we will secure you a comfortable stay, as long as you all are willing to offer your freedom and blood in return."

Apparently, the stories you used to read about are becoming your reality now. How ironic.
After a short while, the blood sucker that accompanied you most of the way left you in a cold and pretty empty hall.
The walls weren't painted very well, and the floorboards made a shrieking sound whenever you moved, daring to crack. You decided to explore a little, since based in what you heard this will be your new home.
You didn't hear any sound regarding any kind of human activity, so you exited the hall and entered a large room with some paintings hanged on its walls. There was a carpet laying on the floor and some flowers on top of a small table in the corner accompanied by some chairs. Advancing further into the background, you could see a small sleeping bag with a glass of water beside it. You were feeling kinda thirsty, hence you decided to take a sip.

Laying on this thing you now call bed, your mind started to assault you with all the previously bottled up feelings so no one could spot a hint of weakness in yourself. In this world full of misfortunes, at least for now you had to keep your guard up at all times. Of course, you were sad because you lost your father, who was the only one you could really call family amongst the rest of people you knew. You felt afraid, afraid of the possible death that was threatening to devour you at any miss or any mistake, and this made you feel extremely nervous. Was there really any safe place in this new life? What is the meaning to living now that we don't have a family and our only purpose is to be livestock for the sake of your father's assassins?

After crying out all of your negative thoughts, you felt somewhat at peace. These are difficult times, but you knew that they wouldn't last forever. Truthfully, you were always the positive and hopeful type, but your hopes and dreams often came accompanied by a logical explanation. This situation however, was different. There was something inside you that made you know that something would change for the better, maybe even better than your past life. You knew and you believed that it was impossible for things to get worse, so now they could only be better.
While auto convincing yourself, a soft smile escaped your lips, a honest and pure smile. Probably the only human smile in the world right now.

A smile that would soon comfort and warm everyone around you.

You were just about to fall asleep when you heard something entering the room through the door. Quickly you hid behind a chair, while you tried to guess what kind of creature it was. The steps were slow and cautious, along with a hint of small shoes. The vampires wear leather boots and they wouldn't have motives to be careful while entering new places, so surely it couldn't be.
That was when you realized your new partner was probably one of the few survivors, someone you had hoped to see for who knows how long. A partner, a brother, a friend, family.

This newcomer was indeed, a human.
Excited, you rushed out of your hiding place and met with a young boy who seemed to be of your age. He was wearing your same black and white uniform, which made you deduct he was in your same situation unluckily. His bright blond hair locks intertwined with each other in the most graceful way, adorning the masterpiece his face was. Two big windows of the ocean he had as eyes, showed a mind full of hopes and dreams just like yours, and just like the face every kid should have. Nevertheless, in this situation, to remain normal was indeed the greatest achievement of them all.
He was a little taller than you, but it wasn't uncomfortable at all to look up at him. His aura made you feel safe and protected, so you stepped a little closer to him and introduced yourself:

"Good morning! It really is a pleasure meeting another human here, since I was abducted on my own. My name is Y/n L/n" You chirped.
"I see, I didn't expect them to bring anyone new soon, but it really is fortunate that you are alive and well" He said with a reassuring smile, as if trying to show you that you were safe around him. "My name is Mikaela Hyakuya, and along with my family we came from the Hyakuya orphanage. You seem to be quite lonely in here, so I was thinking that maybe you would like to join my family? If you don't want you don't have to join, but uhm at least come meet us..." He asked, sounding a little embarrassed at the end.

"Of course I would like to join you Mr handsome face, more if it's with you! I have been searching for a true family for as long as I can remember, so how could I possibly decline?" You replied while smiling brightly at a flustered Mikaela at the mention of that new nickname.
"Shut it, don't call me that dumbass, tch" Mikaela said
"Sorry Mikaela. Now being serious, I'm really grateful to get to be in your life. I was feeling really lost lately, and you could say that you finally made me happy for the first time in a while" You said, while showing pure sincerity and gratefulness for Mika's actions.
"It is no problem at all Y/n, and please call me Mika. All of my family calls me that, so you shouldn't be an exception."

After those kind words, after someone accepting you truthfully into their lifes, after someone calling you family, a tear escaped one of your e/c eyes. A tear of true happiness.

"Are you okay Y/n? Did I say something wrong?"
"Not at all Mika, you made me really happy. Thank you." You said seconds before you pulled him into a warm hug. He hugged you back, showing you that you now are not alone anymore. This made you feel wonderful, as if you were a fish after spending all of its life in a fish tank alone and was finally released into the sea.
