The truck ride to the trailer park was short, Wayne drove his old beat up work truck while Eddie sat with Steve practically in his lap in the passenger seat. If it wasn't almost winter and the younger of the two boys didn't look like a strong wind would blow him away they would have sat in the truck bed where there was room to stretch out. Eddie didn't mind too much and neither did Steve, he stayed leaned into the Alpha's side like if he moved even an inch he'd disappear.
They explained to him on the ride home that he'd been sharing a room with Eddie since there wasn't much else place to put him, told him they'd pull the mattress off of the pull out couch too so they're would be too beds in the room. Eddie volunteered to just start sleeping on the couch but the idea was shot down from a surprisingly stern look from Steve. A look that made Wayne laugh and call him pup.
Both Eddie and Steve were outside of what's considered a pup, most stop being considered one after the present though it's still normal to be called one till they enter high school. Though like Wayne and Hopper, calling the two pup was done in affection and not in any mocking way.
Wayne exited the truck first going around to open the passenger before he meandered his way up the small stoop to unlock the front door. Eddie, thankful for his Alpha strength in the moment, held Steve close to his chest as he slid from the trunk and onto the gravel drive. Boots crunching on the old gravel as he shifted and let the younger boy down on the wood stairs.
Bare feet padded up the stairs, pale arms clinging to Eddie and to the railing so he wouldn't fall as he staggered his way up to the door. The two Alpha's were patient with him, the younger of the two Munson Alpha's whispering encouragements to Steve as he slowly made his way from the door to the couch. "There you go honey, see walked all the way from the bottom of the stairs to the couch."
"C-could, have, have walked from the t-truck" Pulling his feet up so he was sitting criss cross on the couch Steve looked up at Eddie with a half sort of pout.
Sitting next to him he nodded fondly, kicking off his boots after cursing at the laces, moving so he could sit criss cross like the other boy "You could have yeah, but that old gravel would have hurt you're bare feet like a bitch. I don't want you hurt Stevie"
Watching the two boys from his place in the kitchen Wayne smiled and opened a cabinet above his head, rolling his eyes fondly at the two. It didn't matter that Steve didn't talk much, Eddie talked enough for the both of them "Alright you two I'm makin' pancakes for supper, how many you guys want?"
"As many as you'll make me old man! But at least three!" Eddie's answer came first, louder than it needed to be for the small trailer but welcomed nonetheless. Over the years of him living with his uncle the two had one thing agreed if Wayne was going to call him pup then he was allowed to call him old man.
Placing the pan on the stove as he gathered ingredients the older Alpha nodded "As always, how bout you Steve?"
"Can, Can I have f-f-four pancakes instead, instead, instead of t-t-three?" He looked over his shoulder towards the kitchen, hands fisted in the bottom hem of his sweater. Ashamed of his repeating, having to repeat the word till it sounded right to his own ears. Confused on why the other two didn't mention the repetition he was so hyper aware of.
Smiling softly with patients he nodded, already starting to make the batter for the pancakes "Course, you can have five if you want"
"I only, only want f-f-f-four" Looking between the two Munsons as if unsure if he was allowed to say that. Jumping only a little when Eddie gently took his hands from there place fisted in his sweater.
Giving him a gentle smile Eddie leaned forward so there foreheads touched, warm breath fanning over the others face as he spoke "Four pancakes is an excellent choice Stevie, while Uncle Wayne is cooking would you like to see our room?"
With a small nod he was helped to his feet, hands braced on one of Eddie's arms as he was allowed to pull himself up. The older boy only helping slightly, giving Steve the small amount of independence he didn't know he craved.
Walking through the kitchen and down the minimal hall to the very last room Eddie pushed open his door and smiled widely "Welcome to my chamber, here let me clear the floor for you so it's not a tripping hazard"
Leaving Steve to lean against the doorway while he pushed things out of the way, promising to deal with them later and get it cleaned up for him. Taking a few steps towards him but not close enough to lean on he smiled and encouraged Steve to walk to the bed on his own. The swell of determination didn't go unnoticed, though Wayne moving so he could watch from the kitchen did.
Small shuffled steps at a time Steve made his way forward, Eddie always quick to step forward and balance him when he started to stumble. The short walk from the door to the bed normally was nothing but for Steve it was everything. As he more or less fell onto the bed he gave as much of a smile as he could remember how to make up at Eddie who seemed to share his excitement. Even Uncle Wayne gave a congratulating victory shout from the kitchen. Startling both boys who hadn't seen him move.
Sat on the bed in the dingy poorly insulated trailer, wrapped in the jacket of the police chief and surrounded by the pheromones of his knew family Steve couldn't be happier. This is what home was supposed to be like he decided. Home sweet home be damned in his mind it was now home sweet trailer.
