3-Rachel

"It's aptitude test time so listen up! There's no place for you here if you can't perform. Fail, and be shipped to the fields!"

ODM gear training. If you can't balance than its off to the fields. We stand in a group in front of the cadets using the devices right now. Mikasa is completely still. Jean, sad to say is doing great, but shaking a bit. Potato girl is doing really good too.

I look over to the right of Jean. Eren is hanging completely upside down. I can't help but let out a small laugh.

Someone taps my shoulder. "Hey why're you laughing?" I turn. A girl with golden brown eyes and dark brown, almost black hair is standing there.

"Tch" I say and turn away.

"Oh come on, lighten up! I'm Rachel, by the way. Rachel Ackerman. Nice to meet ya" she says

"Isabel Smith" I mumble.

"Soooo what do you plan on joining when we graduate? I really wanna join the scout regiment! My cousin, Levi will be there!"

"Really? I want to join them too.... My cousin Erwin Smith is basically the leader there" I say. I guess she isn't that bad. Pretty easy to talk to also.

"OMG really? Do you know who my cousin is? Levi Ackerman he's really grumpy, and sadly, a bit of a clean freak... but I love him anyway" she says

Levi Ackerman. I definently know who that is. All the girls in my class had major crushes on him...except for me.

"Yeah I know who he is. Erwin's in charge of him" I say with a slight smirk.

"I'm actually hoping to be on squad Levi" I add

"Me too! Levi actually trained me a little before I joined so I already know how to use ODM gear" she says smiling awkwardly.

I laugh. this is the first time I've laughed with another person in a while.

"Oi shorty, your up" Jean says. I scowl at him, then walk up to the ODM training device.

I strap on the harness and then they start to lift me up. Im completely still-possibly even more than Mikasa, which is really surprising. I look over at Rachel and grin. "I did it!" I mouth and she gives me a thumbs up.

"Guys, this is Rachel" I say, introducing her to Armin, Eren and Mikasa.

"Hi!" Rachel says brightly.

"Hey" Armin says his cheeks a light pink.

"Yo" Eren says

Mikasa just smiles at her. She doesn't talk too much.

We talk for a while. Everyone seems to have taken a liking to her, especially Armin.

I can't help but notice how Eren has steam coming from the top of his head, where a bandage is wrapped around it.

"Eren. Worrying won't solve a things. There's still time to get some practicing in before morning" Armin says

"How pathetic. How am I supposed to kill them if I can't even stand up straight" Eren grumbles

"It might be time to let that dream go" Mikasa says quietly.

"Huh?! What do you mean?" Eren says

"I think you should give up this attempt to be a soldier. There's a lot more to combat than just throwing your life away in vain"

"What are you saying? After everything we saw that day?! After what happened to my mom?! You're crazy if you think I'm just gonna walk away!"

"I get it but it doesn't matter how determined you are. Because whether or not your fit to be a soldier. Isn't up to you" she says

The bell starts ringing, and Mikasa continues to talk.

"C'mon Armin Isabel and Rachel" Eren says

We follow him out, leaving Mikasa alone in the dining hall.

"Goodnight Isabel and Rachel" Eren says, kissing my cheek. My face turns bright red. "G-goodnight Eren" I say.

He smiles, then pulls Armin to the boys barracks. I grab Rachel's arms and pull her into the girls barracks.

"Hey Isabel?" Rachel asks

"Yeah"

"Are you and that Yeager kid together?" She asks

Honestly I have no idea what we are.

"Um I. Well, we aren't really together...but he likes me..he told me" I say quietly.

"Well I think you two would be cute together....although, I think Levi's a better match for you....but whatever it doesn't matter..we should go to sleep the final ODM test is tomorrow" she says

"I just have a feeling that when you meet Levi he's gonna really like you...you guys are perfect for eachother...you pretend to be all grumpy but are really big softies" she adds with a laugh. I can't help but laugh as well.

"Ok we should really go to bed now" I say.

"Yeah.. night Izzy" she says

"Izzy?....hmm well night"

She laughs, then I turn over, and fall into a deep slumber.

We all stand infront of the ODM training device. Eren is up first.

"Good luck" I mouth to him, and he smiles.

"Eren Yeager, are you ready?" Commander Shadis asks

"Yes sir!"

"Proceed"

Eren is lifted up, he's actually doing really good, until he loses balance and falls.

Shadis strides over to him.

"No! Not yet! Once more, I can do it!" He yells

"Lower him."

Eren looks genuinely scared then, I wouldn't blame him though... I grip Mikasa's hand.

"Vaughner. Please switch belts with Yeager"

"Y-yes sir!" Vaughner unclips his belt, and hands it to Eren, who puts it on.

Eren is lifted up again, and this time he balances perfectly. He smiles triumphantly.

"You're equipment was defective. If given a piece of functional gear, you might not be worthless after all. The quartermaster didn't notice this broken clasp. Might have to visit the supply depot and cracks couple skulls" Shadis says.

There are various whispers of "wow, he still did it, even with that busted gear!" And some "wows!"

"So you mean I-I didn't cut out?" Eren asks

"You made the cut. Now keep training cadet!"

Eren throws his arms in the air, then looks at Mikasa as if to say "I did it! Now you don't have to worry about me anymore!" I grin and give him a thumbs up

After all that, me and Mikasa both passed with flying colors, as did Shaylee.

We got to try using the real ODM gear, maneuvering through the forest, while Shadis rides horseback.

Everyone looks so free and happy while maneuvering through the trees. It's so nice, I wish it could last forever.
