"What's wrong?" Stella asks. Her and Kelly were having breakfast before Jay called. She couldn't hear the whole conversation but enough.

"That was Halstead there's a kid at the 21st district claiming to be Benny's son. I'm gonna go down. Just in case he is my brother." Kelly says grabbing his keys and wallet from the counter.

"I'll come with you." Stella offers standing up.

"Yeah, that'd be great." Kelly gives her a thankful smile. She kisses him before following him out the door.

It doesn't take more than a few minutes before they make it to the station. Severide walks in ahead of Stella, he looks around. His eyes landed on the teen who has his hood up and was holding a tissue to his nose. An officer was sitting with him but he figures that's just normal protocol. Kelly couldn't see the kid's face but he figures that is the kid Jay was talking about.

"Hey, Trudy." Kelly smiles at her leaning on the desk.

"Hey, Severide." Ricky's head lifts to look up upon hearing the last name. He's never met his dad, he doesn't know anything about him besides his name. And that his mom hated hom . Which wasn't even something he was supposed to know. He just happened to hear his caseworkers talking about his dad during his first time in foster care. He doesn't know what he looks like or anything. "That's the kid." Trudy whispers.

"Okay, thanks." He walks toward Ricky while Kidd stays with Trudy. "Hey there." Kelly waves the officer away and takes his seat.

"Are you my dad? Ya know you're 14 years late right?"

"What?"

"The Sergeant called you Severide. That's my father's name." Ricky says an annoyed expression on his face. Kelly felt bad, how could he not look to see if he had more siblings out there after finding out about Katie. If he did maybe he would've found Maverick before he had to go into foster care and he could've prevented it.

"I'm Kelly Severide." He says sitting down in the chair next to him.

"So what an uncle? Actually, I don't care what you are leave me alone I don't want anything to do with you." Ricky says going to put his earbuds back in before Kelly continues,

"I think your my brother and all I want to do is talk."

"And I don't want to want to talk." Ricky says putting his earbuds in. Kelly sighs getting up and going back to the desk.

"How'd it go?" Kidd asks smiling.

"Terrible." He says as a woman walks in. She looks at Ricky visibly annoyed. Kelly assumes that would be his foster mom.

"Hi, Nicki Benson from DCFS I'm here for Maverick Dalton. "

"Okay sign this and you can take him," Trudy says. She nods signing the paper before going to walk over to Ricky.

"Hi, ma'am? I'm Kelly Severide, this is my wife, Stella, I think Maverick is my brother." Kelly says. This gets the caseworker's attention and she stops.

"I have been one of his caseworkers for almost 7 years and tried every angle to find him a family member to take him in. Why are you just now surfacing?"

"I didn't know about him. To be honest I'm not entirely sure he is my brother either." Kelly says. "If he is though I want to help him." He and Stella talked about it on the way there. They agreed that they'd help the kid if it is true that he's his brother.

"Is there anywhere we can talk? Privately?"

"You can use that office." Trudy points to the door beside Ricky. Nicki thanks her before the three walk into the office shutting the door.

"So what do you want a DNA test? I can arrange that."

"Yeah, I want a DNA test before we take him in or anything."

"Okay, I'll get that arranged. I will need your phone number and your wife's phone number. If it does come back that you're his brother then you can take Kinship care over him. Basically the same thing as Fostering but you don't need to become a foster parent. You won't get financial help unless you do become a licensed foster home." Nicki explains to the couple.

"We'll do the kinship placement," Kidd speaks up. Severide nods his agreement.

"Okay so uh write down your contact info and I'll contact you with the info on what you need to do for the DNA test and we'll go from there."

"Okay."

--Three Weeks Later--

Kelly was antsy the past few weeks. The firehouse noticed and by now everyone knows about Ricky. He called Katie and told her there is a chance they have a little brother. Kelly had been waiting for the DNA tests for two weeks already. He was scared to find out. The results have the chance to drastically change his life, and no matter what it says it'll change Maverick's. They already have the spare bedroom prepared for Maverick despite them not being sure yet. It was the room that used to be Casey's, Kelly did a deep cleaning as it's been mostly untouched since Casey left. they didn't redecorate it figuring Ricky could decorate it himself. Kelly tried talking to Casey and Cruz cause they're both doing this foster thing and it did make him feel a little better. He talked to Ms. Benson earlier and she was coming down to the firehouse with the DNA test results. She told him she was going to Maverick's group home to tell him the results first so he wasn't sure when she'll get there.

"Lieutenant? There's a lady in the briefing room here to talk to you and Kidd." Gallo says knocking on the open door of his office.

"Okay does Stella know?"

"Yeah, I told her."

"Okay, thanks gallo." Severide smiles before passing by him and going to the briefing room. He takes a deep breath before walking in.

"Hey, Ms. Benson how are you?" He asks standing beside his wife who takes his hand.

"I'm good are you ready for the results?"

"Yeah, we're ready," Stella says squeezing Severide's hand.

"It came back a match your half-brothers. Do you still want to go through with fostering him?"

"Yes of course," Kelly says immediately.

"We have a spare room ready and we'll do anything else to prepare," Stella adds on.

"Okay, we'll talk about that. Right now your work schedule does worry me a bit. Maverick requires special attention and care with his history."

"I talked to our chief he said he can come here after school on days we have shift and even sleep over we have extra bunks. Days he doesn't want to we'll figure something else out." Kelly explains leaning on one of the tables.

"Okay that sounds good it might even help him with a structured schedule like that. I have a few papers you both need to sign then I have a list of what you need to take him in. After an inspection of the place he can move in." She explains as she reaches into her briefcase. She sets three papers down as well as pulling out a copy of the DNA test and sets it beside the other papers.

"Okay sounds perfect."

"I'll work on scheduling that house inspection."
