AN: OKAY SO... this story is what I wrote for English class. We had to use a picture (the picture above) and use it in our story. It's creative writing! If I get enough likes on this I'll write more chapters. Tysm and enjoy!

TW:disownment, gross food, asylum, loud noises?
It was June 4, 2009, Roman Kingslees thirteenth birthday, in Florida, Gainesville. Usually birthdays are meant to be fun, a celebration for existing for yet again another year, but Roman's birthday was far from fun. His parents had decided that this beautiful bright day, that was his birthday, was the perfect day to send him off to a mental asylum. Seven years ago they sent his twin brother Remus away to the same place.

Roman stood in front of his mirror fixing his short, wavy, caramel colored hair, and looked at himself sadly. His bright emerald green eyes shined as they were filled with tears. Why were his parents sending him away? Were they just tired of him? They had told him once before that the only reason he was still there with them was for money. Shaking away those angst filled thoughts, he threw on a red hoodie with crown on it, paired with jeans and white converse.
"Hurry up Roman, the asylum will close in a few hours and we need to arrive before it does!" He heard his mother sternly yell from the other side of the door.
"Yes ma'am.." he replied, and headed to the car.

Hours later, they arrived at Voidkin Asylum. The asylum looked more like a haunted castle, if Roman were being honest. The walls were made of cobblestone, but it looked all worn out, and had vines and moss climbing up said walls. Roman glanced at the entrance and noticed someone walking up to his mothers white minivan. He assumed it to be a worker, and he was right. However, as Roman could get a better look at her, she seemed... unusual looking to say the least. Her head was not a head, just one huge eye with a bow. She wore a black maid outfit and black heels.

"Greetings!! I'm Mrs. Orbit, you must be Roman! Do not be afraid, I will be taking you to your room!" She said, sounding like an old broken tv.

She grabbed Roman out of the car quickly. "We must be hasty, lockdown is very soon!" Roman glanced back at his mother, but she was already pulling off, not even saying goodbye or "I love you."

Mrs. Orbit brought him into a cell in which had quite terrifying drawings on the wall, and four beds. As soon as he sat on one of the unoccupied beds, a loud siren went off and the cell door shut all on its own. He covered his ears and looked at his two roommates, who were also covering their ears.
"Aw, I hope no one got stuck outside
in main hall tonight, apparently this week is when the void cat is the scariest!" said one of them, who looked like a...human sized moth?

The moth immediately took notice of Roman and waved. "Hi hi! I'm Mothy! What's your name? Oh wow! Are you human?" it enthusiastically jumped up and down greeting him.

"Oh uh, hello, I am Roman, and yes I am human.." A boy with black hair with the tips being purple and black smeared under his eyes approached him. He also seemed to have spider legs protruding from out of his back.

"Roman, huh? I'm Virgil, and as you can clearly see, neither Mothy and I are humans, so it's quite odd for us to see a human." he pulled on the string of the hoodie he was wearing which was just black with purple plaid patches sewn onto it, in "The Nightmare Before Christmas" sort of style. Virgil then proceeded to hand Roman a tiny pamphlet with the whole asylum schedule. "I'd look at that, it is very useful for newcomers. Also, word of advice, do not go to the basement, unless you want nightmares. Anyways, goodnight." Virgil and Mothy laid down and fell asleep, as well as Roman a little confused as to what was in the basement..

The next morning, the cells opened, and tons of patients were running straight out of their rooms. Roman had woken up an hour before hour 6, when the cells opened, so all he had to do was follow Virgil and Mothy into the cafeteria. He got in line and was handed his food by a lunch lady, who honestly just looked like a infinitesimal version of Mrs. Orbit. He looked down at his plate. He had tomatoes, but then one thing that had to be inedible, black goop with teeth in it! It also smelt like a wet dog! He gagged. Virgil laughed and handed him a biscuit.

After breakfast they were all called into main hall and Roman could not stop glancing at a door with "BASEMENT. DO NOT ENTER." written above it. Virgil noticed this and sighed. He leaned to whisper to him.
"Ok, listen, you cannot tell Mothy this or he will freak out and tell staff on us, because he's a goody tissues, but if you are really curious about the basement, I can take you down there, I have a key."

"Oh seriously? When can we go?"

"During dinner, but we have to do it quickly. It cannot be during nighttime or after lockdown, or we could possibly die."
Staff hurried them out to the playground. Roman was excited now, his adventurous personality was ready for this.

Time passed by very swiftly, and it was time for dinner. Virgil took Roman to the basement door, constantly looking to make sure no staff were watching. He inserted the key in the door handle and opened the door and lead Roman inside. The room was pitch black and all that stood there was a green portal. Virgil nervously looked around and shrugged. "Well! I guess that is all! Let's go back to dinner now, shall we?"
However, Roman was too curious and excited to explore now. "Wait! What about the portal thing?" Virgil shook his head no. "We should not go in there. It's boring! I told you, I've been here before! Totally been in that portal before." Roman looked at him stone faced and rolled his eyes. "Yeah uh huh, sure."
He grabbed Virgil's hand. "Come on! There could be so many adventures that await us! We could unlock all of the terrible secrets of this terrifying asylum!" "Roman, no, wait!"

Roman pulled the two of them in the portal.

They were transported to a place with stone walls and a grass floor. They were also torches, which gleamed with bright orange fire. "Woah.." They both said in unison. "Why are you so bewildered, Virgil? I thought you said you have been here before!" Roman said smugly.

Virgil just rolled his eyes, but then jolted when he heard that familiar lockdown siren and the sound of gates shutting.

"Oh no oh no oh no!" He began panicking. "Now we are stuck until morning!"
