a source close to the couple announced today, formula one driver, max verstappen, 21, and long-time girlfriend, eleanor mitchell, 22, have separated after five years of dating.
the pair meet back in 2010, when they competed in karting against each other, and quickly became friends. they started a romantic relationship years later and have been together throughout verstappen's time on the formula one grid.
mitchell herself is no stranger to the pressure of being on the grid. mitchell's step-brother, pierre gasly, was teammates with verstappen at red bull until a few weeks ago when he was moved to toro rosso and replaced with alexander albon. there are rumours that verstappen sided with team managers on the switch, causing a rift to form between the couple.
it has not been confirmed what caused the couple to part after all this time but many rumours have spread from team management ordering verstappen to break it off as mitchell is currently the reserve driver for one of their top rivals, ferrari, to mitchell having an affair with close friend of the couple, ferrari driver, charles leclerc.
rumours have also surfaced that mitchell is in the talks of joining either alfa romeo or ferrari next year on their starting lineup, making her the first female formula diver ever.
