“This won’t hurt,” Maximoff says.

“The fact that you need to specify that is concerning,” I murmur.

She turns to face Rogers. “Can you open the door?” she asks. He nods and walks out of my view. So there is a door. I watch as a portion of the wall beside the glass wall rises slowly, the stone grinding quietly against each other.

I can’t help but take a small step towards the opening but restrain myself and watch warily as Maximoff steps in, the door sliding shut behind her. Why did I agree to this? I think to myself, my eyes widening slightly as she steps toward me. “I’m still not sure why this is necessary,” I say, shuffling back a few steps.

“It’ll help figure out our best course of action,” Rogers responds. I glance at him to find him watching Maximoff and me with a slightly concerned expression. That’s encouraging, I think sarcastically, facing Maximoff again.

“Reese. I need you to stop walking away from me,” she murmurs.

I freeze in place, staring at her. “How do you know my name?” I ask, getting suspicious.

She opens her mouth to answer but nothing comes out for a moment and she glances at the glass wall. “Just… stop walking away from me,” she says, poorly avoiding my question. There’s barely two feet of space between us and she lifts one of her hands, holding it in front of my face.

My breathing picks up as her deep red magic forms on her hand, weaving lazily between her fingers. “This was a very dumb idea,” I whisper, watching the magic with wide eyes. I flinch when her fingers flick, sending a tendril of magic between my eyes.

I don’t feel anything and watch as her eyes close and her face scrunches up in concentration. It only lasts a few seconds before the tendril returns to her hand and the magic fades away, leaving an after-image behind my eyelids. “That’s strange,” Maximoff murmurs, taking a step away from me.

A shiver runs up my spine and I turn away, pacing to the other wall. “That has to be the worst decision I’ve ever made,” I murmur, placing my face in my hands and groaning at my stupidity.

“What did you see?” Stark asks.

“Uh… not… much?” Maximoff murmurs, sounding unsure.

I turn sharply, pinning her with my gaze. “You messed with my head before you even looked in it!” I snap, taking a few steps toward her. “I can not believe this!” I yell, turning away and running my hands through my hair

“I can’t help it,” Maximoff says, sounding apologetic.

“You know damn well that’s a lie,” I bite out. “God I hate this,” I mutter, running a hand down my face.

“Maximoff. What did you see?” Stark asks again.

“A different mix of blurry, distorted images,” she says, glancing at me. I stare back, my hands clenching slowly into fists. The door slowly rumbles open again and Maximoff quickly backs her way out of my cell. The trio walks out of earshot and view and I wait impatiently for something to happen.

My eyelids start to droop and I shake my head, confused why everything seems fuzzy. I start to slowly lose feeling in my fingers and look around, noticing a nearly silent hissing noise. My eyes slowly lift to the vent and I can see a vapor of some sort shifting out of it.

It must be a sedative of some sort, I think to myself, trying to force away the fog creeping into my head. Stay awake! I will myself. I try taking a step but stumble forward, landing on the ground. My arms, legs, and face are completely numb while my torso slowly begins to lose feeling as well.

I’m using the last reserves of my strength to keep my eyes open but I’m only able to for a few more seconds before they stay shut. Everything gradually fades away into nothingness. No sound; No smell; No sight; But some strange sensations.

First, there are pricks all over, not painful, but annoying. Next, there’s gentle prodding and small movements. After that, there’s a small blossom of pain, followed by a persisting ache. Finally, a searing pain explodes everywhere as feeling slowly starts to return to my hands and feet. As my arms and legs regain themselves the pain fades into a dull throb. I slowly begin to feel my face again and notice my jaw is sore, most likely from clenching it.

Even though I can feel everything again I don’t move, the throbbing making that seem like an impossible task. What happened? I ask myself, relieved I have my mind back. Something feels… off…

My eyes fly open and I struggle to get my hands under me, pushing myself into a sitting position. My gaze flicks around, only finding the dull gray of concrete. I look over my shoulder at the glass wall before turning away, letting out a breath.

My hands tighten around the fabric I’m on and I frown, looking down at it. A hospital bed? I stare down at the pristine white sheets for a few minutes before a realization slowly dawns. No… no no no no no no.

I stand quickly, catching myself when I wobble slightly. My hand darts behind my hair, resting on the back of my neck. My breath stutters and my chest compresses. What did they DO?!
