Lord Richard William Carey, Duke of Bedford Territory has the idea of inviting Karissa to a picnic in Bedford Territory.

When Lord Richard William Carey finds Karissa. She is out in the garden and he walks up to her and he bows " Good Morning Karissa." Lord Richard William tells her.

"Good Morning Lord Carey." Karissa answers, "What brings you to Madame's Boarding House?"

"I thought that we might have a picnic together in Bedford." Lord Richard William asks her.

"I know the perfect place in Bedford. It is near a babbling creek, trees, and plush green lawn." Lord Richard William explains.

Karissa looks up and she answers " I think that is a very good idea. What might I bring to the picnic?"

"My cook will make us a picnic basket. Is there any particular kind of food you enjoy?' Lord Richard William asks.

"I like almost any kind of food, Lord Richard William. I like simple foods like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits and butter. I don't drink alcohol but I like sweet tea." Karissa answers.

"I will have my cook make a basket of finger foods and sweet tea." Lord Richard William tells her.

"I will bring the music and blanket for us to sit on." Karissa tells Lord Richard William.

"Last night was a real treat for me, Karissa. I didn't know you could sing so well." Lord Richard William tells her.

"Lord Andrew Charles wants to hold a second performance out at Norfolk Estate for his father and mother and of course you are invited to attend along with the Collins." Karissa tells him.

"I know that my cousin enjoyed it last night." Lord Richard William explains, " He loves music."

Lord Richard William and Karissa walk to his carriage and he helps her to step into the carriage and they start on their way to the park that Lord Richard William Carey knows.

Lord Richard William and Karissa arrive to the park in Bedford Territory and Lord Richard William Carey helps Karissa to get out of the carriage and she carries the basket in her hand with the blanket and her radio and the spread the blanket under a shady tree and they sit down under the shady tree and spread out the blanket and they sit down on the blanket.

"You know that my cousin, Lord Andrew Charles, will be wondering about where you are Karissa?" Lord Richard William tells her.

"Lord Richard William. I don't care what Lord Andrew Charles likes or wants." Karissa tells him.

"Lord Andrew Charles wants more than I am willing to offer him presently, and he has some silly notion in his head that I want to become Duchess of Norfolk Territory." Karissa explains.

"My cousin is ambitious, Karissa." Lord Richard William tells her " He needs only one thing to reach his goal and that is to have a legitimate child."

"I don't think any man can give me a daughter on the first try, and he seemed to think that he could, but I don't want my children to be an aristocrat and I don't care to be a part of it." Karissa explained.

"Aristocrats believe in archaic practices of pre-arranged marriages that often doomed and make no sense and they do find love later on they are lucky." Karissa explains.

"I want to marry for love but when I am ready." Karissa explains.

Lord Richard William looks at Karissa " So, Lord Andrew Charles has already approached you?"

"Last time he was out at Madame's Boarding House." Karissa explains.

"I see." Lord Richard William explains, "How do you know that a man can't give you that daughter on the first try?"

"Lord Richard William Carey. We are too old to believe in the stork theory and we know it takes two to tango." Karissa explains " What if that man fails and I don't have my daughter and I am stuck with a son?"

"Would that be so bad, Karissa?" Lord Richard William asks.

"I don't want a son. I want a daughter and unless on the first try he succeeds in giving me my daughter. I will never agree to marry him." Karissa states.

"All men want a son first to carry on their surnames, but what man wants a daughter first?" Karissa asks.

"I am not finicky, Karissa. I really don't care what my first child is as I can rewrite my succession the way I wish." Lord Richard William tells her.

"My great-great-great-grandfather, Lord John Carey wasn't finicky but he has a son, and his son had a son, and so forth." Lord Richard William states.

"Look at Lord Beaufort and Lord Churchill. They weren't finicky and their daughters deliberately left it to their brothers so the Howard's couldn't get their stingy hands on their territories." Lord Richard William states.

"Lord Beaufort's great-great-grandson had no children so it passed onto his daughter's great-great- great-grandson when one of her great-great-grandsons had a daughter or son." Lord Richard William states.

"Lancaster Territory will go into abyss until a suitable claimant can be found." Lord Richard William states, " You see my great-grandmother is her daughter but Lady Jeanette had three sons and they will get the territory before any of my children." Lord Richard William states, "My children will inherit Bedford Territory from me."

"I understand entirely, Lord Richard William." Karissa explains, "Then again not even you can guarantee a daughter."

"What would you call our daughter if we had one?" Lord Richard William asks.

"Lady Elizabeth Victoria Ann Beltane." Karissa tells him.

"Lady Elizabeth Victoria Ann Beltane Carey." Lord Richard William tells her " It does have a noble ring to it but I prefer Lady Caroline Matilda."

Karissa is silent and she tells him " Perhaps one day you will have a daughter named Lady Caroline Matilda Carey."

"Karissa. I am 24 years old." Lord Richard William explains.

"You are not even in your prime, Lord Richard William Carey. " Karissa explains, "You have plenty of time to have your children."

"Men don't have biological clocks." Karissa explains " I am only 19 years old and I have time on my hands."

"I am aware of Lord Andrew Charles Howard pursuing me, but I am not desperate." Karissa answers.

Lord Richard William Carey looks at Karissa and he is silent and they turn their conversation to other topics such as music, literature and history.

The picnic proves to be a very happy outing for both of them and they continue to enjoy each other's company and at the end of the day Lord Richard William Carey returns Karissa to Madame's Boarding House.
