Two Kings

Marcy's P.O.V

So I saw Anne and Sasha talking to a cute girl in the bathrooms earlier.

I hope I didn't come off as creepy when I started watching them but I guess I just really like meeting new people.

But anyways the school bell rang, signalling that school was over. But every tuesday and thursday we held a gaming club session after school.

I was the student-president of the club since I'm the gaming nerd as other kids would call me. But I'm proud of my labels.

I'm the king of splatoon, no one was able to beat me in any game mode so far. So that was one of my nicknames at the gaming club.

Every now and then people would throw a 'Hey, King!' or a 'See you around, your majesty!'. I kind of liked the attention and I felt pretty good about the fact that no one could best me.

I walked to the classroom where the gaming club took place. I opened the door and took my seat.

Many kids were playing with their retro gameboys and DS's while others played with more newer consoles.

The classroom was filled with beeping, clicking, and button-mashing. Absolute music to my ears.

I smiled and let out a sigh. I took put my Switch and I inserted the game card for Splatoon.

I began my gaming, absolutely dominating in turf wars.

I was forced to pause the game when Ms. Yunan had to make an announcement.

"Good afternoon, gamers! Today we have new member of our gaming club, meet Luz Noceda!" She gestured towards a young latina with messy dark brown hair.

She smiled eagerly.

"Oh great, just what we needed. Another rookie..." I heard a student scoff.

"Marcy, I trust that you can take care of her? Train her to be the ultimate gaming warrior?" She asked, hyping me up that my new friend had joined the club.

I jumped up from my seat and threw my fist up into the air.

"YES, MA'AM!" I yelled as grabbed Luz's wrist and pulled her into the seat next to me.

"So what do you wanna play?!" I asked, eagerly. "Pokemon Legends Arceus? Pokemon Sword? Animal Crossing? Minecraft? Mario Odyssey? Splatoon?" I kept naming games.

"Ooooooh, Splatoon please!" She said. "I bet I could win against you!"

The whole classroom gasped, including Ms. Yunnan.

I closed my eyes, looked down, and smirked dramatically.

"Is that a challenge?" I said.

"Hmph, for you maybe!" She responded.

The whole classroom started betting money and whispering to eachother.

"I'll have you know that you have just declared a battle with the king of Splatoon..." I stated, full of pride.

"Then, we'll see if you're worthy of that title!" She said, pulling out her Switch.

"You got this, king!"

"Go, new kid!"

"Go all out!"

The gamer club went wild. Even Ms. Yunnan cheered them on.

The turf wars started, each of them on different teams.

Marcy began sniping all of the members on the other team, preventing them from gaining ground.

Luz splatted the floor all over, she used her power-ups every once in a while to make things faster too.

The stakes were high and the bets had all been placed.

Marcy tried her best to snipe Luz but she kept evading every attack. Marcy had always had perfect aim but that didn't matter, Luz was as slippery as a buttery jack and she was as determined as ever.

Marcy hopping around trying to get a good angle on Luz but she wouldn't stop moving.

She stayed a squid most of the time to avoid snipes.

Only ten seconds on the clock remained and so the class began counting down.

5...

4...

3...

Marcy took a shot, this time she had hit Luz.

Luz had winced as if she got hit physically too.

The timer ran out. The two cats had revealed that Marcy's team had gotten 49% while Luz's team recieved 51%.

The class went dead silent.

Then half of the class cheered while the other half groaned to their loss of money.

Marcy looked shocked.

Luz didn't want to be rude to her new friend so she held out a hand to shake.

"GG?" She said.

Marcy looked up at her and she smiled valiantly.

She dabbed her up.

"GG!" Marcy said.

"ALL HAIL THE KINGS OF SPLATOON!" A kid called out.

The class started cheering and clapping as Luz, nervously rubbed the back of her neck.

"Hey..." Marcy said as Luz turned to her. "Glad to have you as a new member, apprentice!"

Luz blushed and gave a soft smile.

They continued to play and discuss strategies together until the fifty-minute session was over.

They packed their switches, Luz smiled at Marcy.

"I'll see you tomorrow, your majesty!" She giggled, excited for the next time she'll see Marcy.

Marcy waved and smiled back as Luz walked out.

She walked home with a gleeful smile and a bounce in her step.

She had just made three friends already! She was so happy that she finally met someone that actually likes the same interests as her!

She finally reached the doorstep to her new house and she walked in.

"Hi, Mija!" Her mom greeted from the kitchen. "How was the first day?"

Luz smiled even brighter.

"It was wonderful!" Luz started and continued to explain everything that happened at school to her mom.

"Is that why your hair is greasy, Mija?" She laughed.

Luz touched the top of her head and found that she was right.

She rubbed the back of her head, and laughed nervously.

"I'll go take a shower..." She said.
