After a couple minutes of the guests chatting with each other, my mother, Diabolos, or Queen Dia as everyone called her, emerged onto the royal balcony. Mother slowly glided to the microphone and looked down at us as she clanged her glass with a fork. Gradually, the chatter died down and she started her speech.
"Thank you, to all who have gathered here today for this special occasion. I have a wonderful surprise later on after a couple of announcements." she said as she rotated her head to face everyone as she spoke. "Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for maintaining Caractus. Thank you to the farmers, who grow crops in order to feed our children. Thank you to the guards who keep our people safe from criminals. Thank you to everyone for this is one of the greatest kingdoms in this area." I zoned out as Mother continued on with her speech, saying how grateful she is for everyone and how great Caractus, our kingdom, is. I was jolted back to reality as my mother added something unexpected to the end.
"Finally, I am sad to say that I cannot fulfill my role as your queen anymore. However, I am overjoyed and confident that your next queen will follow in my footsteps. My wonderful daughter, Princess Anthea, please come up here and take your responsibilities as the new monarch of Caractus."
I was shocked to say the least, not to mention extremely suspicious. Mother loved being queen and having power. She seemed like a tyrannical being to the subjects and outsiders. I am her child though. I can't say bad things about her.
I slowly climbed the twisting staircase to the Royal balcony and glided up to the microphone. I felt my mind slip into never-ending anxiety. I hadn't prepared anything to say! I wasn't expecting to say a speech, let alone become the new ruler of the beloved kingdom! All the people, the hundreds of my country's allies, as well as my subjects were waiting for me to say something. Anything. Yet, here I was, making a fool of myself, during what should be my shining hour.
Luckily for me, Mother came to my 'rescue'. "Please bear with Anthea. This is a surprise for her so her speech will be from the heart. When you're ready, dear. " I took a deep, calming breath and started to speak.
"My dear people, I am honored to become your queen. I will rule over this land fairly and listen to my people. I will be just and kind and empathetic. I will not abuse my power. I will follow in my mother's footsteps and make this kingdom the best it can be. I will not abandon you, my pole, especially in times of woe and strife." Short, I know, but what else could I say? This was literally a surprise so I didn't have anything prepared. Besides, I got my point across. I will be the greatest queen, aside from my mother. I know it.
A/N: Sorry, this chapter is a bit short. I ran out of things to write. Remember to take care of yourself, drink, eat something, have a shower and sleep! Until next time, folks!
