A/N Thank you so much for 100 views! It means so much to me! Enjoy this next chapter :)

A/N 2: Wow, it's been a while. Sorry about that, ive been slightly busy, and I will be in the future, so expect updates few and far between.

The next day...

I awoke to light tapping at the door and a shrill voice calling for me.

"Your majesty, wake up please, you have a lot to do today."

Groaning, I rose, wishing to end the day already. Sadly, I had to meet my duties as the new ruler head on, and there would be no time for breaks. I washed my face and changed into some black trousers and white shirt, with a light green jumper on top. It was comfortable and I did not care that it was mismatched. I walked down to the hall, expecting my mother to already be waiting at the table. Instead, I saw Prince Kaleb slowly eating with a map placed in front of him, and no sign of my mother. Of course, that wasn't unusual, and I brushed it off, thinking she must have been busy with other engagements.I plopped myself down in the seat next to the prince and pulled a plate of sausages towards me.

"Good morning, your majesty." Kaleb greeted, eyes fixed on the worn paper on the table.

"No need to call me that, Kal, you're my friend. Unless, of course, you would rather me call you 'Prince Kaleb of the Midnight Isles' everytime we pass?" I replied, quickly.

Chuckling, Kaleb shook his head. "Oh goodness, no, please."

We ate in comfortable silence, and upon finishing, parted ways. I headed to my new office to read the many letters I had dumped unceremoniously onto my desk. They ranged from congratulations from distant kingdoms, to new trade and alliance deals from a variety of leaders. The repetitive motion of shifting through the envelopes had bored me quite fast, until a small, cream coloured, crinkly one entered my vision. I immediately recognised the red wax seal on the front, the coat of arms belonging to an enemy nation. Hesitantly, I pulled the letter from inside and slowly read it.

To the new queen of Caractus,

We, the nation of Acairnbia, would like to say a few words. First and foremost, we wish to congratulate you on your coronation. We wish you a lovely reign. Secondly, there are many matters we must discuss, urgently of course, that may concern the future of both your kingdom and my nation. We must discuss these in person as soon as possible, for if this was to be intercepted, we would stand no chance. Let us meet at Acairnbia on Friday.

Yours sincerely,

Dione Acairnbia

I was heavily suspicious, yet if they were correct, we may be in danger. Deciding that the needs of the kingdom was more important, I asked Daisy to prepare a carriage for the relatively large land. I decided that in terms of security, I would bring Kaleb along, as too many soldiers would attract attention and nothing good would come of it. I hurried to his room, readying myself to ask him.

***

"No."

"What?"

"I said, no. What if it's just a scam to assassinate you? It's strange enough our enemy comes to you for help, what if it is all just a trap?"

"That is why I am asking for you to accompany me. Nothing will happen if you come, and I have been working on my fighting. We can hold them back for a bit if, and I mean if, anything does happen."

"That if will turn into when and you know it."

I was getting frustrated.

"Fine. I'll go by myself. You'll wish you came with me when my coffin comes back."

I walked out and slammed the door. The last thing I heard before I entered my room was "She will be the death of me."
