(Nixerion on the side/Top) ---- The square was busy that night. Adults betting on what Familiar their children would get, teenagers bragging about what they think they would get, and little kids squealing and cooing at the animals. This would be a good choosing for sure. "Everyone, quiet! The announcer is here!" With that, everyone fell silent. "Welcome everyone, to the choosing of this year! It is with great pleasure that I inform you that with our advanced technology from the year 2145 that we have created new Familiars! What kind? Well, you shall see when these fine kids come out with their brand new Familiar!" Emily didn't like the way he spoke about the Familiars. Almost as if they were just property and not live things. She looked down the line she was standing in. There were kids she had seen in the town, but she didn't know most of their names. She was cut off from her daydream by the announcer. "Ready, kiddos? Go get 'em!" Emily rushed into the building, and was held in place with awe. There were hundreds of Familiars to choose from. She continued walking, until she was met by a Tiger. She looked it straight in the eyes. That was how you knew who your Familiar was. She was disappointed to see that this tiger wasn't her familiar. Emily sat up and looked around. Everyone else had their Familiar. She felt like crying."Where's my Familiar?" She mumbled quietly. " Maybe in there? I haven't looked in there.." She began walking toward the room. A loud hiss rang throughout the room. "Stay away!" A voice said in her head. Emily gasped. "Y-You can talk in my head! Are you my Familiar?" She asked curiously. "No. I'm a pineapple. Of course I'm your Familiar, stupid!" Emily was confused. Why was her Familiar acting like this? " Are you going to come willingly?" she asked. "Not on my life." Nixerion snarled back. "Oh, um..well, I'm going home then." She turned to leave. "Hey!! What kind of partner are you, leaving for Familiar all alone here?!" It complained. " Come on then!" Emily said, getting frustrated. "I'll walk in the darkness. After all, it is my element.
