I peel off the sweaty maroon suit and take off the sticky black mask. I look at myself in the mirror and I can see the light first-degree burns all over my body. I grab the aloe vera and smother my body in the cold substance. I'm disturbed by a knock on the bathroom door "how'd it go today?" mom asks through the door "good, I met another super teen," I tell her and she pokes her head in the bathroom with excitement. I roll my eyes with a laugh at her silly antics, luckily I have on a tank top and spandex. "Who was it? A boy?" she asks as if she'd Nat trying to learn anything she can about the life of a super. "It was a boy, it was The Dash," I say fighting the blush wanting to rise to my cheeks and give away everything.
"What happened?" I laugh at her again "you're as bad as a teenager," I tell her and she shrugs "it's fun, I haven't been active in love or the crime-fighting field for so long," she explains and I think about my dad in a quick burst of memory. "Well, it was fun. He was courageous and a quick thinker in the field. We're surveilling the city together tomorrow," I tell her and she smiles "your dad and I use to surveil the city together too," she says winking. I grab my sweaty super suit off the ground and throw it at her. She laughs "I'm glad you're meeting other supers your age," she tells me "just be careful. It'll always be fun, but your focus needs to be on the field not on the boys when that super suit is on," she says before leaving the bathroom.
I continue to clean off the long day and then fall onto my bed with a thump. I scroll on my phone messaging Natalia, and hearing all about her day. I wish I could see her more on the weekends, but I want to be in the big leagues, which means I need to be out there every weekend. I scroll on social media and stop on Dashiell's post, a simple picture of him brushing his teeth before bed. The caption reads goodbye school week hello weekend, and I can't help but roll my eyes. I could never explain it but something about Dashiell will always annoy me. I swipe away from the image as fast as possible and find myself on a news page that's tagged The Dash and my Super profile Double.
I click on The Dash's page and found myself swiping for way to long. I clicked the power button and plug my phone in, tomorrow is another day
