I woke up Sunday morning nervous, I have a date with The Dash. I jump in the shower and wash off any sweat or battle blood left on me from the past few days. After I get out I wander around the house searching for something to do, anything to keep me occupied. "You look lost," Mom laughs seeing me wander around the living room "I have a date tonight and I'm clueless on what to do until then," I tell her and fall onto the couch.
"A date? Let's go get an outfit and do your nails," She exclaims "Well it's a super date, so an outfit isn't really needed," she smiles at me "is it Dash?" She asks me and I blush. "Elasta-girl call?" I ask and she nods knowingly "well what can I do then?" "We get your nails done and your hair and we make sure the smell of blood is out of your costume," she explains and I smile enjoying this time with her. We get my nails done in a maroon color with french tips, and mom does my hair in bubble braids. I look in the mirror and realize you can't see my eyes in this mask at all. "Can I borrow your mask?" I ask pulling mine off gently.
She nods and leaves the bathroom to grab it, when she comes back she presses it to my face with her tender and loving hands. I look into the mirror the white mask standing out against my much darker costume. "What time is it?" I ask her "5:15" I smile "would it be bad if I was a little early?" I ask and she smiles "as long as you're there, I think he'll be happy," she tells me and I smile at her. "Then I guess I should head out," I tell her going towards the hideout exit "have fun and be safe," she tells me "I will," I call back to her.
I hurry out the exit and I feel the adrenaline rush through my veins. I take my time summoning my clones one by one lifting me closer to the top of the building. I was still pretty early, and there was no way he'd be there yet. The closer I got to the top the more I noticed this wasn't a simple coffee date. The skyscraper typically had no lights above it, but it now had pillars with string lights across them. Large flower pots surrounded a small table for two, and there were two plates set. I smile widely at the scene in front of me and step onto the skyscraper looking for my knight in red spandex "merge," I call out to my clones as I feel them absorb into me.
As if on queue I feel a rush of air behind me I turn surprised by the sight in front of me. I see Dash with his mask on, but instead of the vibrant red supersuit over top of it is a nice tuxedo. I blush happy to see him, but now feeling severely underdressed. "You said this was coffee," I question looking at him up and down, he laughs pulling out from behind him a bouquet of flowers. "I thought you'd like this a lot better," he told me and I step closer so I can take hold of the small bouquet.
"I would have been happy with coffee too," I tell him honestly he grabs my free hand and leads me towards the table. He pulls out my chair and I sit down, he pushes in my chair before hurries to his seat across me. I look down at my plate to see peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into the shape of hearts and then a lemonade refresher to drink. "This is amazing Dash, I really love it," I tell him he blushes scratching the back of his neck "I'm glad you like it. I was going to make you rizzoto but I burnt it. I'm not a very good cook, so yeah..." he tells me shyly.
"I just wanted to make this perfect," he continues and I smile "well mission accomplished," I told him taking a nervous sip out of my drink "so is this your first date?" I ask and he laughs "is it that obvious?" he asks quirking an eyebrow "no just typical first date question I figured, this is my first date too," I expose and he can't help but smile at me. We both start to eat and I struggle to look away from his bright blue eyes. "I like this mask. You have beautiful green eyes," he tells me "thank you I borrowed it for tonight. I thought if I'm unwilling to reveal my identity the least I could do was reveal my eyes," he smiles.
"Do you think we've met, at school or something?" I ask him looking into his blue eyes. He immediately shakes his head no "there is no way. I just can't imagine meeting someone so amazing and not already taking you on a date," he tells me causing me to blush bright red. I put my hand up to shield my face and Dash comes closer to move it away. His eyes linger on my hand as he holds it, then his eyes flicker up at me. He gives me a sly smile and I swear I've seen it before. His free hand reaches to cup my face and then he starts to lean in. When his lips hit mine I feel instant fireworks, and butterflies fly in my stomach.
When he pulls away I want to pull him back to me but I resist. "I know that was a little sudden, but I've been wanting to do that since yesterday," he told me looking deeply into my eyes. I smile and look into his eyes "so have I," I tell him honestly. The rest of the date we laughed and talked about our lives, and part of me wished I was more willing to relinquish my identity. Talking in code was difficult for the both of us. "You've only told me about one friend. It seems like you'd be ms.popularity," he says and I laugh "the popular kids aren't my crowd. I feel like it's a lot of show boating. I don't know I just don't fit with them, and the king of them all... He gets on my last nerve," I explain thinking back to Friday and how Dashiell was acting.
"It could be fun to let go sometimes though Double. We're only kids once, and we already forget that enough when we put on these suits. When I take this suit of I just want to be 17, and that's it," he explains and I nod "I'll admit that sometimes I'm a stick in the mud, but sometimes it's hard to draw the line between teenager and Superhero," Dash looks at me like he's known me for years. "I know exactly what you mean," he tells me.
