The next morning, y/n repeated her tasks, singing softly as she took her time off to wander the gardens, still hoping to find the pond and crooked tree she had once admired. She felt as if there was a memory there, but couldn't put her finger on it. Whatever it was made her sigh with contentment.

"I thought I told you to look up!" A loud voice called, the sound of feet hitting the stone making y/n jump.

"Agh! You scared me! You have to stop climbing up there, I'm telling you." Y/n held her forehead, shaking it back and forth.

"You worry too much." Toji smiled, walking in stride with y/n.

"Where are we going?" He asked, looking up at the sky as he noticed the sun starting to set.

"We?" Y/n raised an eyebrow, surprised that one of the princes would accompany her for his own sake.

"Mhm. You look like you're searching for something, and I happen to be well versed on the palace grounds." Toji bragged, garnering a small smile from y/n.

"If you insist. I'm looking for a secluded pond with the old, crooked tree next to it. Do you know the one I'm talking about?" Y/n asked, hoping her efforts recently would be rewarded.

"Hm. I think I know what you're talking about. How do you know about that? I thought I was the only one who ever went there?" Toji stared down y/n, watching her squirm.

"I just heard it in passing is all. It sounded nice, and I wanted to see it for myself." Y/n lied, hoping it was believable.

"I see. Fine, follow me." Toji walked forward, not waiting to see if y/n had listened to his command. Y/n followed behind obediently, watching the man out of curiosity while they stayed silent.

"You're highness?" Y/n started, tilting her head to see his face from the side.

"I told you to just call me Toji." He corrected, not bothering to turn around.

"Right..." Y/n murmured, looking down at the path.

"Did you need something?" This time Toji looked over his shoulder, offering y/n a glance before going back to his stoic ways.

"No, it's nothing." Y/n backed out of her question, deciding to keep it for later.

"Alright. Well, we're here." Toji stopped, overlooking a small embankment. At the bottom was a hidden pond, the crooked chestnut tree still standing in the same place it had always been.

"Wow." Y/n breathed, forgetting how awe inspiring the scene truly was.

"Here. Hold on." Toji slid down the small hill, holding out his hand for y/n to take, guiding her down behind him so she wouldn't fall.

"Thank you." Y/n smiled at the man, turning away and walking toward the tree. Whatever it was in her memory, it had to do with this tree, and she was set on figuring out what was missing from her mind.

"Why did you want to come here, y/n?" Y/n turned around, looking at Toji with surprise.

"What do you mean?"

"You said you wanted to come because it sounded nice. Is something bothering you? It sounds like you wanted to come here to be alone." Toji pointed out, shifting his stance as he looked between the woman in front of him and the water.

"Oh! Well, it's just nice to be away from everyone once in a while. I enjoy working here, and find the people pleasant, but sometimes solitude is also appreciated." Y/n sighed, glancing at the water herself, watching the wind create small ripples.

"I can go if you want to be alone." Toji boldly stated, his face unchanging as he offered.

"You don't have to! That's not what I was trying to insinuate. You are welcome to stay here, since you were kind enough to show me where this place was hidden." Y/n panicked, thinking back to her similar words with Geto a few weeks ago.
