Karlheinz watched you from over the rim of his wine glass, watching as you chatted with another guest. During the entirety of the dinner party, his eyes had been trained on you. However, you had not even glanced over at him since the beginning of the event.
As his new spouse, you were utterly focused on making good impressions with everyone. Not only that, you had managed to convince him to allow his sons, who ranged from the ages ten to seven, to attend the party. You had tirelessly prepared for the moment since you had a particular reputation to uphold as the newest spouse of the Vampire King.
His eyes shifted from you to the person you were talking to, his lips turning down at the sight of his brother. When Richter had grabbed a hold of your hand and placed a kiss on the top of it, Karl's resolve snapped, and he strode over to the two of you, abandoning his previous conversation. Karl's arm moved around your waist, pulling you against him, as his lips spread into a forced smile.
"Did anyone teach you that it is not appropriate to touch another's spouse so soon, no matter the context of the situation?" he said, watching as Richter let go of your hand. "If you're looking for someone to pass the time with, I'm sure that Cordelia would certainly enjoy your company."
"I suppose that she would enjoy my company after you abandoned her."
"That is exactly what I was thinking. Now, let me and my spouse have some greatly needed alone time."
With that, Richter turned on his heel and moved into the crowd of partygoers. Watching him leave the two of you, Karl tightened his arm around you. At this, you looked up at him with a smirk on your face.
"Were you jealous?" you questioned, watching as his eyes finally moved to focus on your face. You took a leisurely sip of your drink before adding, "You don't have to be worried about anyone stealing you away from me."
"I need to keep the one person who has ever made me feel anything. Don't ever look at anyone but me. Do you understand?"
"My eyes have only ever been on you, Karl. The same goes for you, you know?" At the sight of his eyebrows creasing together, you elaborated, "If I remain faithful to you, I expect the very same. This is not a one-way relationship. If you find yourself wanting to be with another person, you have the obligation to let me know of this. With that, I can make my decision about whether or not I want to remain with you."
"You won't have to worry about me feeling for anyone but you," Karl answered as he moved to kiss you on the lips softly. "Don't lose my side tonight. I don't want you interacting with anyone without my presence."
"You truly do love me, don't you?" you teased as your lips spread into a grin.
"I'll show you just how I feel about you once this party is over," he responded, chuckling at how your cheeks colored. "Now, didn't you want to interact with more of the partiers?"
You wordlessly nodded as he used his arm to steer you into the noisy crowds once again. You comfortably slipped into the many different sights and smells, Karlheinz's arm acting as a sort of anchor for you. Every so often, he would pull you closer to him if anyone behaved too comfortable around you. You were immensely grateful for this small display of affection, thankful that this curbed Karlheinz's jealousy. The party was able to end without a hitch, your public appearance polished and gleaming.
