New School

I had decided to go to bed early, like Bella has suggested. I woke up in a cold sweat, with the image of people running at lightning speed through a forest. I couldn't see their faces, or what they were chasing, but it was clear, they were trying to get someone. Or away from someone.

I get out of bed and quickly get dressed. Piling on layers, since it will be much colder than I'm used to, I look outside the window and see that it is already drizzling. Amazing.

I head downstairs and see that Bella has already made two bowls of cereal. I plop down at the table and zone out a little while eating. Thinking of how we are getting to school, as well as how quickly I have to find my new classes without being late to any of them.

"Earth to Y/N. Hey, you alive there?"

Looking up, I see Bells right in front of me, with a slight smile on her face, concern in her eyes.

"Yeah, sorry, just zoned out for a bit."

"I get it. But we have to leave soon if we want to make it to school on time."

I furrow my brows, confused.

"I thought dad already left. I was just about to ask about the ride to school."

Bells gets up and walks over to the sink with our now empty bowls.

"Yeah, about that."

Driving to school in a loud truck would not have been my first choice. Don't get me wrong, it's very nice, for a free old truck. And it's technically both of ours. But it just announced our arrival to the entire parking lot full of students. And yes, they are all staring. We park, the lack of the sound of the engine being enough to make the silence deafening.

Staring down at the bag at my feet, I think of all of the classes that I have. The same classes that I'll have everyday. Out by 1 everyday, since I was ahead at my old school. Opening the car door, and hearing the creaking makes me cringe. At least it's a light sprinkle of rain now.

I walk around the front of the truck to talk to Bells. We stare at each other, being able to communicate without saying a word. After this, we won't see each other until 3, when she gets out. We have different classes as well as different lunches.

"Try to make some friends, yeah?" I say to her, trying to smile and lighten up the mood.

She cringes at my smile.

"You look like you're in pain."

I chuckle, and that makes her smile.

"There is a real smile." She takes a deep breath. " Well, here we go."

I take a good look at her, and realize that while she may deny it, it finally looks like she has some color back in her cheeks. Like she can finally breathe again. It has been a while since I have seen this side of her. And I'm going to do whatever it takes to keep it here.

"Here we go."
