The ringing of the phone interrupts the silence of the room. Whoever it is better have a damn good reason for calling this early.
I pick it up and the person on the other end of the line immediately starts talking. "Leo? I apologise for calling this early. Did I wake you?" "it's fine Lucas. And you should know better by now if you think you woke me. Is everything alright?"
Lucas is our family's oldest friend. He works in law enforcement and sometimes helps us when we need it. He has also been actively searching for Alexandra since she went missing. She was almost as big a part in his life as she was in ours.
"Right... well..." he has a tone of disbelief "yes?" "The hair you sent to me the other day, the one you wanted DNA from. What was it for?" "We found a woman in The Zoo. We believe she would be a good asset, so we wanted to track her down. Why?" the is a tension filled pause "it matches her DNA, Leo" "HER? As in Lexi's? You're joking." "I- Leo, we found her"
I put the phone down and take a moment for this to sink in. We found her. After all these years of searching, we found her.
I put the phone to my ear and catch the remainder of Lucas's celebration "I am still here" I say. A throat clears on the other end. "Right- I ran her fingerprint through the system after the DNA results came back and I found a forged birth certificate in a different name, but she's in a school and they have her photo. It's definitely her. She looks so much like Alexander"
"have you told father yet?" "No, I wanted to tell you first as you sent the sample. It would be hard to explain otherwise. Would you like to call him or should I?" I pause for a moment "I will" "Okay, I will be over later. Her school opens two hours, so you can try and get her then"
note: I swear I thought I had published this one. Turns out my forgetful ass forgot to. Allsssoo ignore the 4 month absence. That is unimportant. Anyways, this is mostly a filler chapter which is why its so short.
