The nature unveiled its fury with the howling winds, rumbling thunder and blinding flashes of lighting. Not a single soul dared to step out.

As everyone stayed inside their safe abodes, no one was there to hear the cries of the small life that lay under a tree. The one day old baby lay alone, vulnerable and abandoned.

Hwan trotted as fast as he could. Today he had a lucky day and almost all his vegetables were sold but that also meant that he was late returning from the city.

He hurried, not wanting to get too drenched in the rain which was getting heavier with each passing minute.

The sound of the baby's wail made him stop dead in the tracks. Sure, he was mistaken. What would a baby do out in the open in this weather.

He couldn't believe his eyes when they saw the small human in the basket. He rushed and picked the child up in his arms.

Upon finding no hints of the baby's parents or caretaker, he wondered who had left the adorable little one with the beautiful doe eyes alone. The baby literally seemed to be a cherubin.

He didn't have the heart to leave the child out where he was sure to die by the morning. Moreover, he was a lonely man who could easily do with some company in his home. So, he decided to take him with him.

"Poor Hyeni, she was such a virtuous woman, yet she had to give birth to a devil." a woman commented as she contemplated which vegetable to buy.

"She must have been doing something evil that no one knew about. I always thought she was too good to be real." her friend replied.

"Anyways, I'm glad Jiho got rid of that devil's incarnation. Who knows what he would have done to our village otherwise."

"Where was the mark again?" she enquired while paying Hwan.

"At his waist. It looked like a skull." the other informed.

The women left the shop but Hwan silently wrapped the sleeping baby in the baby cart more securely.

He knew well about the mark, after all he was the one who was giving SeokJin a bath and taking care of him since the last week. Yes, he had named the little angel SeokJin.

He had been hearing rumours about the newborn of the Choi's and how he was considered to be a curse due to the birthmark on his waist and the fact that Mrs. Choi alias Hyeni had died immediately after giving birth to him.

He had not revealed about Jin to a single soul. He was not the one to believe in baseless superstitions and if he could save an innocent soul, he would gladly do so.

Since that day, SeokJin became secret and precious treasure.
