Jin watered the plants in their garden with a pout. It had been three days and he really wanted to meet his new friend, but his father hadn't said anything about the matter, and he knew better than to ask him again.
Hee-haw
The loud noise confused Jin. They didn't have a donkey in their farm and the sound seemed somewhat unnatural too.
Hee-haw
There it was again, and it seemed to be originating from behind the trees bordering the farm. He made his way slowly towards it. Taking a deep breath, he peeped behind the tree cautiously, only to find nothing.
Just as he let his shoulders sag, someone placed a hand on the right one, scaring the soul out of his body. He let out an ear-splitting shriek.
The intense laughter of the intruder made him stop screaming and stare at him angrily.
"Yay! This is not funny."
"Sorry but you should see your face. You look so funny when scared." he replied while still having a hard time to stop laughing.
"If you don't stop now, I'll make sure to tease you harder when I find out what makes you afraid." he threatened.
"That's never gonna happen."
"Really?"
"I'm not afraid of anything." He replied confidently.
Jin crouched down and picked up something. He placed his closed fist on Jungkook's shoulder. When he had retreated his hand, there lay a large cockroach.
"Aahhh...... Get it off me." Jungkook shrieked as soon as he saw the arthropod which was now crawling on his skin, toward his neck.
Hwan, who had ran to the scene after hearing Jin scream was surprised to find the other boy screaming in panic instead of his son as he had imagined.
"Don't jump, you will hurt it!" Jin seemed to be more concerned about the cockroach than his friend.
"Get it off me! Get it off!" he kept screaming.
"Accept that you are scared of a few things."
"I'm not"
"I won't take it off you."
"Please Jin"
"Say it"
Jungkook was saved from the cockroach by Jin's father who finally decided to intervene and take pity on the boy.
"Dad, why did you help him?" Jin frowned.
"Jinnie, you shouldn't be mean to others." he rebuked lightly and turned to Jungkook with a kind smile. "Are you ok dear? What's your name?"
"I'm Jeon Jungkook and thank you for saving me." he bowed.
"You must be the boy who had saved Jinnie that day." Hwan observed.
"Dad, since Kookie is here, can I play with him? Pleeeeease." Jin requested with his best puppy eyes.
"Well, I guess you can. Also, Jungkook is welcomed to visit our house at any time from now on if he promises not to reveal about it to anyone except his mother."
Jin looked up expectantly at Jungkook who in turn agreed to the condition.
Hwan couldn't be happier at the glow that lit up his son's face. He guessed it was ok for him to have a friend and the boy, Jungkook seemed to be trustable. So, he spent rest of the time watching the boys run all around the farm, playing games and laughing merrily.
<Two months later>
The first visit had led to many more with each one making their friendship stronger.
"Are you sure you won't make me fall?" Jin questioned sternly.
"Don't you trust me even a bit after hanging out with me for so long?" Jungkook questioned back.
"Fine. But be careful" he huffed and climbed up the shaky ladder while Jungkook held it, keeping it propped securely against the tree trunk.
Jin took out the hatchling from his pocket and placed it in the nest. He stroked its head with a finger for a few minutes before descending down again.
"See, you can trust me, can't you"
"I think I'll have to test you a bit more." Jin teased.
"How ungrateful!" Jungkook exclaimed and tackled him to the ground.
In the tussle between them, Jin's shirt got lifted by an inch, exposing the black mark on his waist and drawing Jungkook's attention. Jin realized what had happened and pulled his shirt down immediately.
"Woah! You have a cool mark."
"Sshh.......Dad told me not to show it to anyone."
"Why? It's so cool and cute too."
"He said people can get scared because it looks somewhat like a skull." He explained.
"But I think it looks like a little heart to me."
Jin tilted her head a little and tried to observe it from a Jungkook's point of view.
"I never thought about noticing it like that before."
"My mom says everything is beautiful if we change the way of looking at it." he shared.
They sat together on the grass that carpeted the area, thinking about the wise words until it became too difficult for their still developing brains to keep up with the thoughts and Jin decided to break the silence.
"Didn't you say that you will show me something special today?" he reminded.
"I'll and it's just about time. Did you bring what I asked for?"
Jin nodded and brought the mat. They spread it near the lake and lied down on it facing the sky. The sun had already set and the stars started becoming more prominent beside the beautiful moon.
"Now look carefully." Jungkook ordered.
"Where?"
"There." he pointed his finger towards the sky.
"But there is just the moon and the star. I see it everyday."
"Do you know about constellations?"
When the answer was negative, Jungkook volunteered to teach him about them.
"......And that's the Orion there." he concluded.
"Wow Kookie, you are so knowledgeable." Jin praised. "But, you must agree that the moon is the most beautiful."
"Just like you........." He murmured.
"Did you say something?"
"Yeah, it's beautiful."
Soon words abandoned them and they simply lay there, cherishing the moment. Slowly, their hands connected, fingers intertwined and an unspoken promise of being with each other through thick and thin passed between them.
