Chapter 2

"Girl, be for real" I laugh

Natia laughs on the other end of the screen.

"No stop, there's literally tears in my eyes" she says through bursts of laughter, wiping the tears from her eyes.

Just then a tall, samoan man walks in her doorway.

"Natia, can you get off you FaceTime call please, were leaving in twenty minutes." He says

"Okay dad," she replied before turning back to me "anyway I gotta go, I have a family gathering to go to."

"Alright, have fun" I replied.

"I will, bye."

I said goodbye back before hanging up the FaceTime call, closing my laptop.

It's three days into the school holidays and Natia and I have talked to each other every single one of them. I even found out that one of her cousins on her dad's side goes to my church, which is cool I guess, his names Noah and he's a year older.

Natia said he's dating her mums friends daughter, so they're not related, and neither knew about each other having connections to Natia until like two weeks ago, but its awkward for her when she sees them together.

I check the time on my phone, 10:10 a.m. shit, I have work in twenty minutes.

I quickly walk over to my wardrobe and grabbed my work clothes, changing into them and attaching my name badge. I quickly put on some concealer, mascara, eyeliner and lipgloss before grabbing my phone, wallet and airpods and jogging down the stairs. Just as I reached the bottom I saw my brother about to leave the house.

"Josh!" I call out and he turns around. "Drop me to work?" I ask, catching up to him

"Sure, it's on the way." He says.

"Thanks"

I rush out the door after him and get in the passenger seat. I buckle up and Josh turns up the radio and Sex, Drugs, Etc. by Beach Weather starts playing as we pull out the driveway.

We drive down the road in silence, turning the corner and stopping at the lights. We drive for another five minutes before he pulls up out the front of the small ice cream shop I work at.

I hop out of the car and thank him before closing the door and walking in, bell jingling as I enter. I walk around the counter and into the office to clock in, waving hi to Jessie and Kayla as I walk past.

I clock in, putting my apron on I wave to Jasmine, our manager, as she talks on the office phone, and walking back out to where Jessie and Kayla are standing, serving the customers.

I stand at the counter and the first customer comes up, asking for a choc chip mint in a cup, I scoop the ice cream as they pay and leave the store. The girls and I serve about seventeen more people until the line in the store clears and theres no more customers.

"Hey wheres Tilly?" I ask.

"Omg, didn't you see on the group chat?" Jessie asked with slight surprise

"Her and Sam broke up, it was messy." Kayla says with slight sadness.

"What- no! I cant believe I didn't see that message, how is she?" I ask, concerned.

"Not good, Kayla and I were saying just before how we should take her some ice cream and surprise her when our shifts end, are you busy after?"

"Not at all, I'll come. Let's go woolies and get a bunch of snacks as well."
