Two weeks later Tommy and Paul were sitting in the doctor's office waiting to be called back. They had figured Tommy was due in May. Tommy was nervous and kept trying to cancel the appointment. Paul made him stay seated by holding his hand. "Stop! Everything will be alright."
Finally the doctor called them back. "Well, are we expecting again?"
"I think so." whispered Tommy. "The test was positive."
After answering general questions, Tommy was given a paper gown and asked to put it on. Paul and the doctor left until he was ready. As the doctor pressed on his stomach, he gripped Paul's hand tightly. Finally the exam was over and Tommy could get dressed again. he had to wait on the blood work to come back.
"Well, congratulations. You are expecting. It looks looks like you're three weeks along. The baby is due in May." "I will give you some prescriptions for pre-natal vitamins and I will see you back in one month."
Tommy and Paul headed back to the front to make the appointment. "I'm going to the bathroom, Paul. I'll meet you in the car." Tommy finished making the appointment and walked back down the hall. He felt sick and wanted to wash his face.
In the car, Paul waited on Tommy to come out. He started to worry when it became later and later, so he headed back inside. It didn't take him long to find Tommy because he could hear him crying.
"Come on, baby. Let's go home and tell our daughters. I think they're going to be happy."
Tommy washed his face and took a deep breath before taking Paul's hand and following him out to the car.
They talked about things on the way home and promised to be honest and open with each other. Paul knew Tommy would have to work on it so he promised to be patient.
"Do you want a girl or boy?" asked Paul.
"I don't know." "How about you?"
"It doesn't matter."
"Well, we'll come up with names for either one."
Agreeing that the girls would have a say, the two of them went home to start working on the nursery. Tommy wanted to just add a few new touches that could work either way so Paul agreed.
The next weekend was spent redoing the nursery and planning names.
