———————————————————————————————

Horace had lost track of Will after only a few minutes of acting as a diversion, and he slowed his pace and quieted after he realised he had no idea which direction to continue in, and that Will might well have caught up to the Scotti by now. If he had, Horace was sure it would be only minutes until Will called that he had apprehended the fugitive, and to come back. He figured the further away he went, the longer that would take if Will needed help for whatever reason, and hence he decided to loosely begin to loop back to the general direction he thought MacHaddish was headed in, wanting to be within ear-shot if Will called for him.

Only moments later a pained shriek split the air.

If that was Will screaming, he could already be dead. That thought filled Horace with nothing but dread as images of his best friend bleeding out in the snow drowned his other thoughts, but he forced himself to focus on the pragmatics of the situation. That scream meant that Will and MacHaddish had engaged, and stealth was no longer necessary. It also meant Will probably needed help.

It also told Horace that he was rather far from the source.

Aaaand that he was heading the wrong direction.
