Chapter Five:

We pull up to my small house. My dad gets out of the car and opens my door for me.

"Thanks," I say, getting out of the car. We walk inside and my dad starts making some pasta for dinner.

"So you missed your science test?" He asks.

"Shoot, yeah. I'll try and make it up tomorrow," I say. "I better study."

"Since when do you care about studying?"

"Since," I want to say since I met Justin, but instead I just say,"Since my phone and laptop are on the line." I run up the creaky stairs and get my science book. I go back into the living room.

"So what are you learning?" My dad asks.

I'm alarmed by the question, he's never cared. "Uh I'm in Chemistry, so I'm learning about atomic bonding."

"And you're atomic bombing that class," my dad teases.

I can't help but laugh along. "Hey it's a D-! No F's for this girl."

"D-," you dad repeats in a serious tone. "It's that bad?"

"Yeah, you should know, my teachers call at least every other day." Suddenly we're both dead serious talking about my grades.

"I ignore them," you dad responds. He lets the words sit. "What do you say we aim for a B in all of your classes?"

"Dad that's redic-"

"I know it's crazy, but I believe you can do it."

He believes in me? He's never said that. It's almost inspires me to try...

"Deal," I say. We shake hands in a playful way.

"So tomorrow you need to ace this test."

"Stop talking to me and let me study then!" I smile and open my book.

---------------------------------------------

I walk into my fourth period science class. Justin is already in class.

"Hey Juliet!" He yells across class like a dork. The whole class stares at you. I cover my face and sit in my seat. "Ready to make up your test?" He asks.

"Actually yes," I respond, confidently, "I studied for like two hours yesterday."

"Really?" He looks surprised. My teacher gives me my multiple choice test. For the first time since sophomore year, I actually know the answer to the first question, and the ones after it.

When I finally finish all fifty questions, I turn in my test, confident as can be. The bell rings, but your teacher puts your test in the scanner thingy. She pulls it out, looking at it suspiciously. "Are you sure Justin didn't help you with this?" She eyes me, looking for any sign of a lie.

I shake my head,"Nope, I did it all myself." I grin.

"Well, Mrs. Crawford, you got a 100%. Nicely done," she tightens her lips and eyes me again. She hands me the test with a big A+ written on it. I smile and skip into the halls. Justin is waiting for me in the empty hall. "So what'd you get?" He asks, starting to walk out to lunch.

"100%, A+ baby!" I exclaim. Justin hugs me around the waist and picks me up. When he sets me down we stay in a lingering hug. He stares right into my eyes. He slowly leans in.

He's kissed my cheek before, and held my hand, but for some reason, I never pictured him being interested in me romantically. We kissed for about five seconds before he pulls away. I frown because, honestly, I really loved the kiss.

"I'm sorry," Justin says.

"For what?"

"I don't know, I got to go to class."

"It's lunch," I respond, but he's already out of the hall.
