Clanking noises filled the room. Lights flashed only for seconds, then left you in pure darkness as you felt yourself ascending upward. You coughed with a rough hacking sound and felt nauseated. You held your stomach, hoping and praying you would not throw up. Suddenly, a horrendous jolt sent you up until you landed on your back, moaning. The sound of doors sliding caught your attention while two doors above you retracted to reveal boys surrounding you. One jumped into the box and stared at you with daggers. "Welcome to the Glade, Greenie." He said, smirking and raising an eyebrow as he lifted you up and out of the box with the help of a few other boys. You stumbled once your feet hit the ground, your knees threatening to give away beneath you. They all laughed mockingly. You felt tears burning in your eyes as you suddenly rushed through the ground. Your eyes eagerly found an exit through one of the walls. With all the strength you had left you darted toward the door. A few boys who hadn't come to the box started (they were by the homestead) started to run for you. One boy had a limp, slowly he began to fall behind but still pressed harder to reach you. A different boy rushed over to you and grabbed you by the waist, tackling you to the ground just before you reached the exit. "Get off me!" You shouted, squirming to get out of his grasp. He stood up with you still in his arms. Your back against his chest. The boy with the limp appeared in front of you. "Hey, it's okay. I'm Newt. Thomas, put her down." Newt said, pointing to the ground at the last part. Thomas did as he was told you stood there. Fearing for your life your were frozen, staring at Newt, watching what he was doing. The crowd seemed to watch, but some dispersed into other areas. Newt stepped closer to you, his eyes staring into yours. "I'll explain what this place is to you. But promise me you won't run again, okay?" Newt said, chuckling. You nodded, still fearful. He placed a hand on your back and lead you to a shaded area by a large tree. You both sat down. Newt cleared his throat. "This is the Glade. We're all sent here just like you, we only remember our names. Oh, what is yours by the way?" Newt asked, raising his eyebrows. "Y/n" you said, shyly. Newt smiled. "Beautiful," he said, "Now, onto explaining what the heck this place is..."
***two months later*** "Newt!" You yelled, running up to him as he disappeared into the Deadheads. He didn't turn, just kept moving until you saw him lean against the wall of the maze once you caught up with him. He had tears running down his face, his eyes bloodshot and his shoulders shaking. "Newt?" You said, advancing closer to him. He glanced back at you, then looked away shamefully. "Go. I don't want you to see me like this..." Newt said, sniffling. You placed a hand on his shaking back and made him look at you. "Tell me?" You asked. Newt sighed, giving in. "The other guys, as in the builders, were making fun of me." Newt said, more tears falling down his cheeks as he reflected on the memory. "What about?" You asked, beginning to rub his back. "My limp." He choked out, breaking into a sob. You pulled him into a hug, his face buried in your hair. Whatever Newt had gone through, it must had been truly terrible. "I'm sorry, Newt." You said pulling away and looking into the sad boys eyes. He sniffled. You wiped away his tears with your thumb. Suddenly, Newt pressed his lips against your own. You were stunned, your eyes open as he kissed you. He pulled away, a hint of pink in his cheeks. "Sorry." He said seeing your reaction. "Don't apologize, I just wasn't expecting it." You said blushing a deep crimson. Then you pecked the tip of his nose. Newt smiled. "You feeling better?" You asked, grinning now. "Yeah" he said placing his forehead on your own and smiling slightly.
