'I hate waiting on her.' you rolled your eyes, you'd been waiting on your friend Leah for going on an hour, probably longer.
The Doordash you'd ordered already came and you had time to eat, you had some of Leah's Ben & Jerry's, you were a good portion into 'Death at a Funeral' so yeah, it had been some time.
"Don't cuss me out..." she started as soon as you answered, knowing she was always late, no matter the occasion, "Leah."
"I'll be there soon." she lied, there was no way of telling where she was but her definition of 'soon' was before 11:59 pm.
"You know I love being here but-" you started, knowing this is literally the definition of your second home, you had your own room and bathroom at Leah and Connie's, even though they were roommates, but you had stuff to do tomorrow, and so did Leah being that you're going to Cancun with her.
"But what?" she asked, seeming to be genuinely confused as if she didn't know about the trip that you've been planning for nothing short of a month.
"Nigga you're never on time," you raised your voice slightly, being the mother out of the two of you, "And we have a flight to catch tomorrow, we won't be able to go to the mall before."
"I'll make it." she said, her voice not sounding sure herself, "Leah-"
"And if I don't I'll pay for your stuff." she said, her smile able to be heard through the phone. The only reason she said that is because she knew wherever she was, there was no way she'd make it early enough to catch the mall, and because she didn't know what it was like to not be able to shop in the kids section.
"Yeah, think about that," she said, noticing your silence, "Remember you're stacking for that Sport." she said, mentioning the car that you were so close to buying, not wanting to ever pay a car note so you just thought to pay for the whole thing at once.
"Fine." you said plainly, a squeal coming through the phone after your agreement.
"Bye Leah." you said with an amused tone before she had time to start more of her bullshit, you also said it that way because you now knew why she'd be so late, hearing her man thats not her man's voice in the background.
"See you later, I love you boo." you shook your head, the joy in her voice evident, "I love you more."
As the movie continued to play, you felt yourself slightly dozing off, but that was short lived, especially when you heard the door open.
You rubbed your eyes, forgetting about the mascara you had on and started blinking constantly trying to get them to focus, meaning you were closer to being slumped than you thought.
"Hey angel." you heard the voice you've grown to love after hearing the sound of the door closing.
"Mm, hi." you stretched and fluttered your eyes before catching Connie's hazel ones from across the room.
"You just woke up?" he asked, he always asked obvious questions which you didn't understand why, "Mhm."
"Well I'll leave you alone," he said walking past the couch where you were, you could tell he just got out of practice or just left the gym, "If you need anything you know where to find me."
"Ugh." you rolled your eyes, turning your attention back to the movie. Now all you could think about is what he meant by anything, and you knew he literally meant anything.
