"Gwen?" I heard aunt Stella nock at my door. "Hun your alarms been ringing for thirty minutes now." I finally heard the beeps coming from my nightstand. I groaned rolling over trying to find my phone. 7:30. Oh god. I shot up In bed.

"Stella, I've got it! I'm gonna be so late." I heard her footsteps moving back down the hall and then a door open and close. Stella isn't a morning person.

I got out of bed and rushed into the first thing I found in my closet. I pulled my beanie on over my messy light brown hair. There was no way I could tame it before I leave. I gather my school bags up and practically jumped into my combat boots."Bye Stella! Love you see you to night." I said while passing her room.

"Have a good birthday Honey! See you later" I heard her call after me. Yeah, happy birthday to me, I thought viciously. Seventeen years on this planet and the only thing good that happens is that I didn't end up in a foster home. I rushed out the door pulling on my leather jacket.

I was going to have to run and still make it five minutes late to school. That was taking the route straight through the heart of the city. Any other way would take me an extra ten minutes. The only problem was that Friday mornings the city was full of people trying to get to work. I pulled my backpack closer and started running, dodging business women, vendors, and what ever else was on the side walks.I quickly to a look down at my watch. 7:55. Oh lord Mr. Jericho would surely hand me a detention slip.

Ouch. I bumped into someone sending papers flying and me on the ground. I pulled my self up off the ground and rushed to pick the man's papers. He looked mad. Oh lord, his papers were flying off into to the street.

"Do you know what you've just done you ignorant child?" He grabbed my arm, almost breaking it. Maybe I was just exaggerating a little but it still hurt like hell. "I'm the CEO of a big company . Those papers were damn important." He was causing passing people to stare at us.

"I-I'm sorry Mister. I just need to get to school. Its almost winter break my grades are final today. Please?" I asked tugging my arm away causing him to tighten his grip.

"You're gonna pay for this." He said and I could clearly see his face darkening. "I'll see you later child." He let me go when he saw a police man rounding the corner. I started running again. That guy was seriously a creep and what does he mean see me later? Oh god do not go talk to Aunt Stella.

I reached the school wheezing. 8:10. Great detention for me woohoo. My birthdays are always full of disappointment. I walked quietly through the empty halls making my way to Mr. Jericho's class. I didn't even bother signing in at the office. The secretaries would surely have something rude to say about me. Everyone normally did.

I tapped on the wooden door hoping that someone other than Mr Jericho would answer the door. I stood there impatiently waiting and finally the door opened showing me a man with a pedo-stache, huge glasses, and a shiny balding head. His breath was killer as he stared at me waiting for me to come in and take my seat.

"Miss Gwen you will show up for detention after school." He said getting a laugh from the class.

"It wasn't my fault I bumped into some man today and he threatened me and I couldn't get away fast enough to get to school." I said barely audible under the laughs of the students in my American history class.

"You can have another hour since you want to lie to me and argue." He said handing me the yellow slip of paper. I opened my mouth to protest but I was cut off. "That's enough Gwendolyn . " Everyone laughed at the name he called me.

"Its just Gwen." I mumbled under my breath. I could hear my classmates talking about me. Why does everyone hate me?

I stumbled through the first hours of the day quickly. Mr Stacy was absent so we read in her class to pass the time by. Mr Crawford called me out in class while I was spaced out. Obviously earning me many laughs from my fellow classmates. Mr. Moore had a pop quiz. Ah but it was lunch time and I was quite hungry, my stomach making the rumblies.
I went to get my tray from the cafeteria. It was pizza day. Great at least I got something halfway enjoyable. I got in line being the last person as normal. Everyone else just cut in front of me. I waited for about five minute until I was first in line. I had a smile on my face as a grabbed a tray and held it out waiting for my slice of heaven. I heard the plop of something moist hit my tray. I let my smile fade away when I saw I had meatloaf .

"Sorry kid, the girl in front of you got the last slice. " the lunch lady explained as she put a glob of apple sauce on my tray.

"Mhm, thanks." I said leaving her and heading past the tables and out of the door. I didn't have a place in the cafeteria. Nobody would let me sit with them so I found comfort in the library surrounded by books.

The librarian showed me pity by letting me sit in the back of the library with my lunch. I picked a spot near the fiction section and ate. I liked reading stories that took me to a new world. I finished my apple sauce not even daring to touch the meatloaf.
I got up wandering into the shelves looking for a new book. I stopped when I saw something the troubled me.
The man from earlier was standing outside of the library's window staring at me. What? I closed my eyes and rubbed them. He was gone when I looked back up. Was I seeing things.

I quickly grabbed my stuff and went to my next class. I was definitely seeing crap. The rest of the day seemed to drag on slowly now.

I was slowly falling asleep in my eighth hour class. I didn't sleep well do to the night terrors I had. Probably why Stella wasn't a morning person. She told me I screamed alot and that my screams kept her up through the night. I always saw my self in a puddle of blood choking and gasping for air. It terrified me. I was having the same dream again but this time a saw a dark figure picking me up off of the ground. I let out a scream and woke up startled. The whole class looked at me with terror and they whispered amongst themselves. Mrs. Jewel dismissed us early and I walked towards the detention room quickly feeling eyes watch me all the way down the hallway.

"Ah Mrs. Gwendolyn." The detention teacher called me by the wrong name. I walked into the room looking around. Just the trouble makers and me. How do I always end up in these situations.?

"Just Gwen." I said walking toward a seat in the front. She looked at me with shock, like I really hurt her feelings or something. "um, my names just Gwen ma'am." I explained again. She nodded as If she was scared I'd beat her up or something. What was up with her?

Two hours later and three fights later I was on my way home. To celebrate my birthday with Stella. The sun had set and I was walking home with only the light from the street lamps and the occasional business that was still open. I stopped in a tiny café to get me a cupcake. Maybe I should be happy its my birthday for .. I sat at the bar they had and ordered. The waitress handed me my cupcake and I slowly devoured it enjoying its chocolaty flavor. Unfortunately for me most things I enjoy end quickly.

I finally notice the man sitting in the corner of the cafe. The same man as this morning. Maybe I wasn't seeing things. I paid for my cupcake quickly and left. I made it half way down the block before I heard the cafés door bell jingle. I looked back and surely enough it was the man. I walked as fast as I could but the man was gaining on me. I broke out into a run trying to lose the man I took a different route getting lost. He was still there behind me and I had been running for ten minutes at least. I turned down an alley way praying for a shortcut.
