The Glass Jar

A single glass jar that set upon the little table,

Starting completely empty of all tangible items,

But holding all the dreams of our future.

A single glass jar that glittered in the sunlight,

Daily we would pass by and drop loose change or a couple dollars,

Until it slowly rose in color.

A single glass jar that collected dust as it was never moved,

Stared at wistfully for moments at a time,

But then forgotten as time carried on.

A single glass jar that slowly became opaque,

Filled with green and silver and copper,

Almost as if we could dip our hand in and scoop out a taste of our dreams.

A single glass jar that threatened to break,

The weight of the interior breaking through the cracks,

It won't be long now.

A single glass jar that was emptied at a bank,

The value of the contents increasing every second,

And fulfilling all hopes.

A single glass jar that purchased the plane tickets,

And was placed back in its spot on the little table,

With a new destination written across the front.
